Polishing Endless Space 2: The First Patch

Hello everybody

We are excited to announce today that we are releasing the first in a series of patches for Endless Space 2, and in this first patch we will address several issues reported by ardent members of our community — to mention a few examples; the AI should no longer demand tribute when trying to surrender, Riftborn can once again use Hyperium to accelerate colonies, and laws rewarded by quests will now properly show in the senate screen.

Having such a passionate community who cares so deeply about the games we make, that is something we are truly grateful for — we are glad that so many of you have decided to stick with us and Endless Space 2 despite the issues that have been affecting the game ever since the release of the Awakening expansion.

Tackling these issues is of high importance to us, but we have unfortunately not been able to do so as quickly as we would have liked to, and we apologize for that.

But rest assured that we do want Endless Space 2 to be the best game that it can be, and as such we have enlisted the help of Clumsy Dwarf, who have been working together with us since the development of Awakening (and Symbiosis and Inferno for Endless Legend before that) — Clumsy Dwarf is a newly formed studio made up of people who previously worked at NGD, and we’re happy to have them return to help us in our endeavor to improve and polish Endless Space 2.

There are many more fixes in the pipeline, and some of the ones we are working on aim to resolve some issues with the Umbral Choir and fixing several quests — more information on the next patch will come soon, but until then, you can find a complete overview of today’s patch notes here.

Thank you for your passion as well as your patience.

Stay tuned for more

I'd also like to note that there have been a lot of problems giving this error lately:

System.TypeInitializationException: An exception was thrown by the type initializer for Mono.CSharp.CSharpCodeCompiler ---> System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Windows mono path not found: D:\Games\SteamLibrary\steamapps\mono\mono\mini\mono.exe

You can see some examples here, here and here that I've helped fix. If you search for it this has come up many times. It's some kind of issue with Unity, and it seems to be the most common bug reported these days. I suspect it isn't an actual problem with the Endless games themselves, however since it comes up so often even just having a more helpful error message could help a lot of users who don't think to come to the forums. I expect that for every person who's taken the effort to seek help with the issue here there's ten more that just gave up.

Good... good. Now balance Spear of Isyander and the game will be good again..

To be good again, we need more than this.

Academy fleet siege your panet, without reason, you must declare war to fix this... and so on...

Academy need to be considered as an empire, like the others, and we should make war, make peace, make diplomatie with academy... like the others empires.

That is simply not true. Sure it is unbeatable at the early stage, but it doesn't make you autowin or autolose, unless this is competitive MP, and even then only one player will find itself unlucky. Spear of Isyander can be dealt with, especially as the game progresses.

If this is a joke ?

I'm not sure we play the same game.

I talk about game setting and especially AI force level.

Do you consider some balancing changes? For instance, I feel like the academic fleet is way too powered in early game and should scale against the player having the best fleet.

I'm curious - do you intend to rebalance the Spear of Isyander? I have purchased everything Amplitude has ever made except the Awakening DLC and a few sound tracks. I've been reluctant to purchase Awakening due to it's poor reception and the biggest complaint seems to be that the Master Fleet is so overwhelmingly powerful that it completely ruins the game.

Personally I would love if we could do a final balance pass on issues like this, but fixing bugs takes priority, so we may not be able to allocate resources to balance changes.

Perhaps you could think of another DLC to finance these balance changes, the game was better balanced 3 expansions ago, but things have have gone badly since the introduction of Hisho. I would gladly pour more money into ES2 for purely polishing the game, from gameplay issues, balance, AI improvements (see what EL community patch did!) all up to a lore pass making sure the storylines and tech tree are self-consistent. Sure some people might complain to pay for fixes but I think its unreasonable to expect these things can happen without financing the studio.

Kinda sad that I can't use wasd to switch systems anymore. Guess overcolonization brings even more of a punishment now.
