An Update Regarding Monstrous Tales and Dark Matter

Today we want to share some news about the Monstrous Tales and Dark Matter DLCs that some of you may have already guessed at:

We are moving the release date of these DLCs to May 6th.

Why would we move the release date again, if we have already moved it once for the sake of bugfixing? This decision is not just about polishing, though we continue to do so as we test the new quests with our VIPs. We also want to be able to deliver some (anticipated) content to be released alongside the DLCs.

In particular, here’s what we’re working on for the free patch that accompanies the release:

Endless Legend

Community Patch Bugfix Integration

Many of you probably know of the Endless Legend Community Patch, and indeed some of you have asked us before to integrate it into an official patch. For those of you who have not heard of it before, here’s the gist: The Endless Legend Community Patch (or ELCP for short) is an ambitious modding project, spearheaded by LeaderEnemyBoss, aimed at addressing bugs and improving balancing and AI in Endless Legend (you can learn more about it in our Community Spotlight on the project). The scope and quality of the mod are exceptional, and it is quite popular with many players, and we have even used it on stream ourselves.

LeaderEnemyBoss has kindly agreed to let us integrate his work in an official patch. While we will not be merging the whole suite of the ELCP into the official version, we have been able to add several of his bugfixes from the ELCP to the upcoming patch, like fixes to a few quests or to a serious issue with Urkans and defeated factions. Of course, we will share a full list of these fixes when the patch releases alongside the DLC.

Auriga Map

The Endless Galaxy is full of ancient wonders, and many of our players are always eager to learn more about it, explore it in new ways, or even add to it with their own projects. From discussions and speculation on the forum to entire pen and paper RPG projects, we constantly see players looking for deeper knowledge of the Endless, and the geography of Auriga is probably among the top contenders for “most requested information about the Endless Universe.” Since the wonders of Auriga are a major theme of the Monstrous Tales DLC, we have decided that rather than simply giving you a map, we will instead create a fixed map for Endless Legend, so you can explore Auriga yourself!

Based on a sketch made by Jeff many years ago, this scenario presents the definitive map of Auriga (and if you’ve ever asked Jeff a lore question, you know how hard getting a definitive answer from him can be.) On it, you will find many places you have heard about before in quests or other descriptions, but also locations our community has never heard about before. We hope you’ll enjoy exploring Auriga, and look forward to any new discussions and projects this might inspire.

Endless Space 2

Pug Hero

Fans of the Endless Universe can tell you about an element that connects all of the Endless games. Dust? Well, of course, that goes without saying, so we’re not talking about that. The Vaulters? Horatio? He’s too perfect to be left out. No, we’re talking about the pug. Roving Clans Settlers were accompanied on their arduous treks by their best friends, as was the trader in Dungeon of the Endless. But wait... Endless Space 2 does not have a pug! Yet.

Unlocked as a reward for Endless Day 2019, Sbejru Mashmir has finally concluded their Academy training and is ready to join the roster of heroes in Endless Space 2. A descendant of the legendary Ayairi Whairydd, companion of the dungeon’s merchant and smartest being on Auriga, Sbejru Mashmir has a lot to live up to! Luckily, they brought the family hammer (though honestly, we’re not entirely sure if that is the same hammer passed down the generations, and we’re reluctant to ask...)

Tech Tree Lore Pass

Over the years of working on Endless Space 2, we added, changed, or moved many technologies and their unlocks, either for balancing or to fit additional content. At one point, we started feeling that the descriptions no longer quite matched the gameplay effects of some technologies, but we weren’t sure if that might have just been us staring at it for too long, so we asked you what you thought. The vast majority agreed that the tech tree needed a lore pass.

As the gameplay aspect of the tech tree was still in constant flux, we decided to hold off on changing the descriptions to give the game designers freedom to change technologies as needed. Once the gameplay changes had settled, we had to take some time to examine which technologies needed new descriptions, and also to take stock of some other problems in the tech tree that should be addressed, like a few missing icons. With that done, the writers could get to work on the new descriptions while the bugs were being fixed, and once the new text has been localized, we’ll be ready to share the reworked tech tree lore with you.

We hope that all of you will enjoy this new and updated content that will be added in the patches accompanying these DLCs, and will have fun exploring the mysteries of Auriga and the Endless Universe in the new quests of Monstrous Tales and Dark Matter.

What spoiled brat lol we paid for that dlc if you don't remember it, and like i explained on steam before to some people like you, you're the typical incarnation of people that never tried to modify/code a game before else you would knew how scandalous it is to such a small dlc like that to get delay for months. And i'm not even talking about the tech tree lore which was voted in 2018 or the cancelled rework of penumbra dlc because they didn't want to despite the community's opinion, Amplitude is being more and more deceiving.

Just yes.

Glad to see that [hopefully most] of the ELCP will be officially incorporated into the game.

Thank you for adding some of the bug fixes from the ELCP to the core game, that said I'd also like to remind you that there are some bugs that LeaderEnemyBoss hasn't fixed in the ELCP because he deems them to be Amplitude's work. Namely: the missing diplomatic interactions for the Kapaku and Mykara. I'd like to see these fixed even if you just have to Google Translate the versions to other languages.

Not sure what to think about the ES2 dlc. It's been a couple of years with the tech-tree and I rarely read it anymore.

The EL dlc sounds amazing, though. I hope that there won't be much compatibility issues with ELCP in general.

Already bought both of the dlcs and looking forward to them.

Sadly, I have to agree. Amplitude pretty much abandoned the game after Penumbra flopped. I guess the DLC’s started to earn to little to be worth their time and it was a logical step from a financial standpoint to move on to HK. The part I dislike the most is the lack of honesty, but most people would be alienated even more by a straightforward end-of-life message from the studio, as many would feel cheated by an open admission that the game will never reach a polished state. I for one would prefer if Amplitude treated its game more like Paradox Interactive does, but they do tend to have a much larger player base, and are thus able to fund constant updates.

Honestly I am really excited about the idea of playing on "real" Auriga. I really do wonder how it's going to look.

Also True Start Locations for races or nah?

Super excited for the ES2 DLC, even if it's just a quest pack. I always read everything and take my time learning more about the lore and roleplaying my factions. Great to see we are getting some Tech Tree Lore :O

Found the changelog.

It's nice to see that parts of the Community Patch have been merged with the game. I hope that this practice will continue.

wow and you waited the last day of march to announce that when you knew it way earlier by the way you're saying it, it's seriously despicable.
