Can't colonise a system and the game won't tell me why

This is still not fixed. 
I will request a refund for Dark Matter DLC on steam and encourage eveneryone to do so.

Reason: This DLC break the game and developer won't fix it in 8 month since first bug report. Also no communication from developer on timeline to fix

how to fix save file:
1. Disable Cloud Saves in game and save the game in new save file, name it DLCFIX
2. Goto %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Endless Space 2\Save Files and search for DLCFIX.sav
3. Install 7zip and some hexeditor like HxD
4. .sav files are .zip files, open it with 7zip
5. Unpack "Endless Space 2\Galaxy.bin" from DLCFIX.sav
6. Edit Galaxy.bin using HxD
7. Find all occurrences of "CannotBeColonized" and replace with something else but same in length, like "CannotXXColonized", save the file
8. Drag back Galaxy.bin to 7zip window with opened DLCFIX.sav to replace it
9. Load the game, game will ignore "CannotXXColonized" value as is not correct and allow colonization, re-save the game to clear save file.

Hero! Thanks to them, and to you for sharing it here :). It probably would take 1 dev less time to fix the bug than Nucleoprotein figuring out this hack. 


It's shameful that the greed of their leadership is greater than their desire to ship working software to players. I'm so angry, it's tempting to spite this hubirs and say I'm happy that HK is failing; except I know that all the passionate and loyal employees at Amplitude don't deserve that, they deserve better. Jesus, someone in charge at (Amplitude or SEGA?) needs to get a clue and change their ways. I'm this close to swearing off their games, and I'm so glad I didn't fall for the HK trap.


Edit: I should point out that even if fixing the bug would be very easy, I realze ithe harder part is organizing QA to test a new build and updating on Steam. But at this point, ES2 is in such bad state they could almost treat patches like beta releases. Assign 1 dev to fix newly reported issues (only) and ship builds with only 1 fix in them at a time so they can be rolled back if needed. With only a a very small smoke test in between (no more than 2-4 testing hours). This would be easier and safer if there was a beta channel for the game of course.

This fixed the issue for me. One note, on step 7, use 'Edit' and 'Replace'. It's much easier than trying to find each one and replace all 25 occurrences.

Hi

I found where the file where the probleme is, but i don't really know how to solve it. (Maybe someone better than me could repair the quest...)

However, I found a way to broke this quest a bit more to avoid this anoying bug :

In the path : C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Endless Space 2\Public\Quests
There is a file named   QuestDefinitions[DLC5B].xml   who contains "Death Without a Corpse" definition.


This begin at line 718 :
Like the solution found by fleokan/Nucleoprotein (thank you !), i have changed the 4 descriptors (line 794->797) by adding some char : (CannotBeColonized become CannotXXBeColonized, ...)
As said before, the game won't recognize theses descriptors, so he won't do anything.


==> The quest begin and can be solved like it should be in game, but all systems will remain colonisable.

(You can also simply desactivate the quest by changing the minimum turn for triggering it)


This won't repair your broken saves, but will prevent your next game from bug.


Here is the file modified if you want (but the modifications are easy to do) :

QuestDefinitions[DLC5B].rar

Okay I just want to confirm that I've run into this bug even in the supposedly "public gold" version. I can also confirm that the savefile hack works, although I generally dislike hacking savefiles. In this case though, this bug is what most would consider as "game breaking" so I was left with no choice.


If anyone from the studio or publisher or the marketing team is reading this, please know this: I have been considering buying humankind as I am a big fan of 4x titles, and it's nice to have alternatives to good ole Civilization. But before I would commit to the purchase and the sure-to-be follow DLCs, I would usually look at one of the recent "mature" title from the developer and gauge whether the product is polished, and if not, whether it still continues to receive committed and timely support. In short, your previous titles, and the level of support it receives, are the best advertisement for your new projects. So there is something to be said about diverting some of that precious programming resource to fix major, game-breaking bugs on a mature title, as part of your marketing effort. 


I am  sure I am not alone in thinking this way.

Appreciate the fix suggested but we really shouldn't have to go through all this hoops for a bug that's been out for nearly a year and introduced on a quest pack that they charged for. The last dev post here was on this very thread and that they have a fix that they'll be implementing on the next patch, which never came. This is honestly frustrating as the bug can be really game-affecting. I tried to reach out on social media before and was told that they're busy with humankind but my comment will be passed on to the devs. Nothing happened. Maybe posting in the Humankind bug reports forum would be better since devs are active there.

Amplitude doesn't support Endless Space 2 no more. You could go for the mods I refer to within the linked Steam discussion thread:

Damn annoying running in to this. How can you abandon your best game? What the hell is the point of this huge forum now? Your new games aren't as good as your old ones what's wrong Amplitute? Sadness

Unexpected, but good news. Some modders of Endless Space 2 community are officially working on a new patch. I imagine it comes along with bug-fixes. Meanwhile make use of the above linked thread dealing with mods fixing (i.e.) the bug in question.
