If I had any artistic talent I'd be working on something that looked more like a mass of metallic roots.

I think that would be an interesting (read: not anthropomorphic) conceptualization.

So I caught a cold so I have been rather sore around the head region today but I managed to bring the warfare Unfallen to a standard im happy with; there might be a few small details here and there but this is it.

Here we go:

Ill be sending off my submission tomorrow after scanning everything in and editing it into the correct format.

Edit: there is a second leg but only a sliver is visable, if I choose to I could have had more "legs", but two legs will be fine. I will probably not be drawing for the next couple of days since I have to work on a literay review on High Lift devices, it has a little more priority.

Still not done :( I'm kinda slowly tweaking details on the ship (mainly)

Notably this little bugger, I can't decide if I'm making an assaut craft or the smallest vessel (civilian )

Clearly I'm not the only one who had the idea to get feedback from this thread, but I would really appreciate it regardless. Please tell me which citizen design you like best and why or why not. Thanks again and best of luck to everyone in the competition, your entries look great!

Oh, and the arms on design 1 are supposed to have similar tendril connections that the legs do, but I kind of forgot. Feel kind of silly know.

Whoa! So many cool designs for The Unfallen!

I really haven't checked this thread much since the rules were released and, well, I'm quite surprised with what everyone has come up with.

I've finally finished sketching ('cause I'm a slow artist I suppose :P) and thought I'd share what I have in case anyone wanted to get a view of more competition, have something for inspiration, or for you guys to suggest stuff or anything. I still plan on putting it through PaintTool SAI to make it look more concept-artlike with the time I have left because, right now, it looks pretty simplistic and I wanted to give it colour.

I have the details simplified into bullet points, so if you want clarification or more deets, don't hesitate to ask me about it. I probably spent too much time overthinking the reality of how the characteristics of the Unfallen would come to be, so expect a vibrant response if you ask lol.

Although I always felt they would take advantage of being able to mold themselves into any shape (since they can mold into warships), let me start off this tour with what is, I suppose, the standard look of The Unfallen:

The People

-They have refractory crystals for eyes.

-They have sort of cobalt blueish leaves.

-They evolved from real trees.

-They trudge through the soil, absorbing a bit of the nutrients and moisture as they walk to survive.

-They can range from 6 to over 20 meters tall.

The Military

-Follows the same basic principles of the civilian Unfallen.

-The Unfallen marines mold themselves into armored shells to protect the majority of their leaves, while still letting light shine through.

-They usually prefer tri/quadraped structures for stability and agility.

-Their armor is based on elegance while still retaining strength.

The Spacecraft

-Ship names go, in order from size,  Matron<Reine<Matriarch.

-Ship names are based on a theme of "Mother" Nature.

-The Unfallen ships focus on an elegant style, just like the rest of the military.

-Each ship has several onboard ecosystems to act as a source of nutrient and water circulation for the ship itself.

-The ships has refractory crystals all over it, each facing in its own direction; the ship can practically see in all directions at once.

-The ships are almost completely dotted with leaves, for starlight at all times. The cells of the leaves are strong enough to withstand the vacuum of space and are highly immune to the effects of radiation.

-Their ships are composed of large, curved sheets of metal "dancing" with the large spires and curves of the organic trunks. Most of the armor is layered around the engineering section of the ship and occasionally at the front for head-on styled attacks.

-Scattered around the ship are fully pivotalal spherical turrets that fire independently and are capable of being adapted to any sort of ammunition; they act to be as practical as they are stylish and add to the almost Elven, mystical feel of the ship (While it may lookit, I didn't draw the turrets like this so they'd be easier, I thought this design choice would be unique and iconic :*).

TL;DR

I probably put too much thought into the actual nature of a would-be alien, sentient species of walking trees. All designs are made to follow DevilDogFF's descriptions to the letter with a spin (a "blue leaf" resembles diplomacy and peace, the Unfallen focus less on the lethality of their military designs and more about the beauty of it all, etc.)

I would really enjoy feedback and hope you guys like my designs, and thank you all, and good luck to the other contestants!

I'd pick number 2. It looks more alien and unique! Number 1 seems a little too humanoid imo, but they both look amazing. :o

An interesting design there, what exactly is within that thing, a giant seed or a crystal?  Perhaps a description would help us understand it better.

I really like the ideas that involve vines and tendrils more so than the bulky brown tree trunk designs. Ent-like designs seem to be a bit overused in fantasy. Also have the devs specified that the designs need to be humanoid? I think it'd be more interesting if The Unfallen weren't so human shaped. If they use spores to force truce maybe they could be more mushroom like. Having said that, there definitely have been some cool designs so far.

I also think that we should try not to make them too humanoid but I really liked number 1, I'd say go for that because it is really cool! Also, if the Unfallen can shape themselves to become ships they could also try to look more humanoid for diplomacy reasons!

Y'all could make them as actual trees but they use cybernetics or something to move.

Like, wheel chairs or robo legs or even a hover-compost bed.

Imagine it, flying plant pots!

I started re-doing my military and civilian entries to make them look more unique (or at least as unique as I can make them). I think this preliminary sketch turned out pretty decent.

It's still a work in progress but I think it's a good start.

The Spacecraft

I like this sleek and elegant design. Especially the idea of bending metal around the bio strucutre. This is a good deviation from the "trunks in space".

Is this cape like structure some leafes?  I can imagine some motions on it, a head twitching, some bending on the trunk part, the leafes moving bye the wind. Like the leader animations in EL. Good work.

We haven't specified much, and especially not the shape.

I have a question related to the descriptions of the pictures : is it possible to fuse the descriptions of the soldier and of the civilian to obtain one description of 100 words instead of two of 50 words ?

The description says up to 50 word per character and ship , doesn't seem it mandates how those words are to arranged, unless they have a specific presentation in mind ?

I know but I want to be sure : it would be a shame if my submission were deleted because of a detail like this.
