I know, right? That's the first thing I thought of too.

Even though I generally prefer playing non-humanoid and 'good' factions in space stategy games, I think the UE is absolutely fantastic in its design. It's nice seeing a representation of humanity that isn't the standard 'neutral/good' diplomacy-focused Starfleet-alikes you see in pretty much every other game. I'm really happy to see that Amplitude managed to capture that uniqueness this time around too, so congratulations to them!

Oh, trust me, the United Empire is a 'good' faction...

Edit: Also, starship trooper vibes are exactly the right thing they could have done. The first movie was just awesome af.

There's also the Unfallen that will most probably fill the Ecologist niche.

As for the Timelords or Horatio if I were to guess, I'd say that Horatio could be a mix of Religious/Ecologists, but Timelords are the great unknown.

That seems very probable... but they put them up to a vote, and I missed some of that voting.  I didn't have the impression that they were geared towards being ecological from the beginning, but like I said, I missed some of it.  Were they always intended as some variation of ecological from the beginning?

The impression I've had is that we'll have 6 "set" factions, one with each ideology, 1 unusual faction that transcends or balances ideology, and then a wildcard faction designed by the community. Thus, they already had an ecological faction, and then the community voted for a second one.

On the other hand, even if that were the case, they did it far enough in advance that they could rework their previous ecological faction, I suppose.

The only factions left that we have no idea which ideology they follow are the Horatio and the new "Time Lords" faction.

One of them will most likely be Ecologists, and the other one will be an extra, like the Unfallen.

Yeah, that.

Wait, this can't be it. Opbot is still not on the wiki. He's another Academy hero created by the community to be added to the game before launch.

Ah - you're right - I'd totally forgotten about that. I'll try to keep an eye on the wiki and update the thread once he gets a page.

Updated the OP with the information on the last Major Faction (the Unfallen) and two Minor Factions (the Pulsos and the Remnant) kindly provided to us by ENFER. This is probably the last time the list will be updated, at least until we start seeing DLC factions (please - I need my Sowers). Hope it's been at least somewhat useful for those who missed the announcements elsewhere!

Wishing you all many happy hours playing the game once it releases!

Apologies for not updating this thread with the new information from the Early Access 2 stream sooner. The last few days were somewhat hectic for me and so I didn't have a chance to check for updates.

For anyone who has somehow missed the new info some new factions have been revealed: the Horatio as a major faction and the Tikanan, Eyder and Gnashast as minor factions. The opening post will be updated with links momentarily.

After reading the Emperor's bio I'm more inclined to believe that their regime will be a Confederation.

You mean the one where you have X reps per world rather than population-based reps?  I think I can see that.  I get more of a neo-feudal vibe from the UE than a straight-up dictatorship, so I can see it.

Give me Sowers, or give me death!

We are getting them, as a Minor Faction.

I SUPPOSE THEN... GIVE ME MINOR DEATH.

Or Sowers. Still leaving that option on the table, Amplitude.

i think that Horatio will be the ecologist because of the heavy enphasis on population that ecologist techs have.

So the UE is an offshoot of the Mezari like the vaulters?   I expected the opposite with the Mezari branching from them.

Does that mean we'll have a Mezari faction?   Seems unlikely as Sophons already have the science niche.

Mezari seems to be like the original human race, the Mezari of Auriga became the Vaulters and the ones of Reia became the Empire. This seems to have happened who know how many centuries ago.

Maybe there is some Mezari-ish faction with the original culture out there.

Well, Raia has to have been settled by the Mezari before the end of the Dust Wars, at least, since some of the original passengers of the Grey Owl were Raians (I knew they were human!). I suppose that is likely the origin of the Ardent Mages, Roving Clans, and Sisters of Mercy, then, since they were all present on Auriga before the crash of the Success.

So the UE could be quite old. Though it could also be a relatively recent development for the Raians.

I never heard about the Grey Owl and Raians before. Where can I find more information about it. I did a quick search in EL wiki, but did not found anything. Is it part of one of the faction quests?

The Grey Owl is the Hissho ship from the EL quest victory. It can also be seen exploding (or possibly jumping to hyperspace or something? Look more like an explosion to me, though) in the original ES2 trailer. It also features heavily in a short story Jeff Spock did a while back called the Last Flight of the Grey Owl, which is where the Raian passengers bit comes from. It can be found somewhere on the forums here, let me see if I can find it... Here we go: https://www.games2gether.com/endless-legend/forum/6-game-design/thread/3572-the-last-flight-of-the-gray-owl

The Unfallen would be ecologist, obviously.

There's 8 luxury ressources, just saying this :)

The faction creation contest was focused on the theme of "pacifist diplomats" so I think that the unfallen will follow the pacifist ideology. They'll probably end up with some supplemental traits to boost ecologist similar to most of the other major races. I think we can actually take some decent guesses about the Timelords. Remember there used to be 8 ideologies, which would have given each major faction its own corresponding ideology, until 2 were removed. I suspect that one of those ideologies was trade focused which was then merged with pacifist (which is why pacifist will have two factions: the lumeris and unfallen), which would suggest that the Timelords were originally associated with the opposing ideology (isolationism? mercantilism?).
