I really would to see Necrophages fighting against Cavers. They were created for this purpose after all, and have some interesting differences. They would be the gods of the ground combat, by transforming their foes into their own soldiers. They are also more insidious, and more resilient ennemies than Cravers. They would be able to spread plague and curse to the other planet. Maybe they deplete planets, but because of their abilities to create their own building material with saliva, donit feel the difference at least about industry.

I may be nitpicking here but it's weird that there doesn't seem to be much debris after the ship exploded. You could argue that the explosion was so intense that it didn't leave anything behind, of course.

Or maybe all of this is just wishful thinking on my part.

Seeing it from a game mechanic point of view, you only send some settlers and a hero to the Grey Owl, so the remaining of the Vaulter society remains in Auriga. So there is a chance that the remaining Vaulters on the planet can still scape by reparing the Argosy, which is the damaged ship from their main quest. But that will depend a lot from where the DEVs want to go regarding the Endless story.

There is a chance that if they make Endless Legend 2 (a high possibility) then the story might be a soft reboot like ES2 was in regards to ES1.

[SPOILERS]

Ardent Mages: May have scaped winter by virtualising themselves (literally becoming virtual spirits and reaching some sort of painosphere).

Wild Walkers: May have scaped winter by being safe at the top of a very, very, very high tower.

Necrophages: Didn´t scape. However left a lot of eggs on safe places for future hatching when winter ends.

Broken Lords: May have scaped by dominating Dust technology to a new degree. At least one of them reached space, somehow.

Vaulter: May have scaped by repairing a space ship. They are "saved by canon" on Endless Space 1 (but presently absent on Endless Space 2 which is some kind of reboot of ES1)

Allayi: May have survived winter by not being affected by it. At the end of their quest they reached speacial tech that renders them immune to anything winters throw at them.

Roving Clans/Morgawr/Cultist/Forgotten: Very few chance of survival. Their quest involve getting rich (Roving Clans), becoming powerful (Cultists/Morgawr) and avenging a tortured hero (Forgotten) without much concern for the winter apocalipse.

Lorewise? I think only the Vaulters.

The Nercrophage for example only hid a bunch of egg clusters around the world hoping they would survive the ice age.
