We haven't heard about it for quite some time (the vote concerning Opbot's past was around a year ago, although I can't tell the exact date of this vote... maybe THIS is the anniversary Frogsquadron was talking about), but it is certain that, because Opbot is quite a love character and one of the symbols for Amplitude games, its return had to be celebrated.

That would be pretty cool. It's not *totally* clear cut that the Gray Owl actually blew up rather than just left the rift in its wake. Twist in the tale maybe. Either way, if this is the reemergence of my favourite space vikings, I will be super happy. Also looking forward to what FlyByNo has cooked up in the the audio genius department.
So, days ago, frogsquadron said that there will be an anniversary very soon, and that some things might happen (the date I have in mind is that Horatio have been added to ES2 around the 19th of January 2016, but I'm not sure this is an event of enough importance, even if I love this faction)...

It makes sense to be Vaulters if it is a DCL. Otherwise, if it is a birthday event, them probably a new hero (and it will be Opbot of course).
We might take into account the time it took to publish Endless Legend (september 2014) and EL's first DLC (Guardians at april 2015). Not that they would repeat the timeline but it seems a good guideline... 6 months from base game to first DLC...
So if Endless Space 2 was published in may 2017 then its already over the six month timeline. It can be a DLC.
But it would be the first time they would release a DLC in a birthday event... Well, I have no idea, can be either DLC or birthday event.
You can already sortof become the Mezari through the United Empire faction quest. And while the Vaulters are neat, yet another humanid faction in ES2 would not interest me. Adding OpBot as a new hero would be cool, but I thought he was already secretly in the game, perhaps a member of the Remnant, Kalin Fett-Iska or Belcus Akad-Talar.
