I think the Vaulters showing up makes sense. There is a story there. To show how some Mazari split from the UE and crashed on Auriga then years and years later escaped to be the Vaulters and have their own place in the ES2.

Amplitude apperently has been taking notes from Cyberpunk and CD Project Red.

Soo... I think Vaulters escaped Auriga and after many generations they found the new home which is their Home Planet in upcoming expansion. In fact I would like to get another non-human race, but the Vaulters could get a bit transformed or evolved and not be regular humans anymore, who knows.

I've always wondered why Vaulters were so popular. I've never played them in any of the games. I'm happy with any new content and I'm hoping that if this turns out to be a Vaulters DLC the Amplidudes made them as interesting as the ones that came before not just a semi-regular human faction and I can finally give them a proper go.

Also, I thought that the Mezari and the Vaulters were pretty much the same, I didn't really expect Vaulters for that reason, seeing how the Mezari are a playable faction already within the United Empire storyline.

I don’t understand why are you looking only for aliens. Vaulters are cool because they are a science-focused human faction. Actually, I haven’t played anyone but them and Mezari in EL ( 160 hours. The largest number in library). Their design is marvellous as well as their overall atmosphere. Now I really want to see their renewed design and more lore. My “Ascended Mezari Technocracy” faction could use Vaulter design!

Vaulters are as much Mezari as the United Empire, or Pilgrims, or Sheredyn, or Horatio for that matter. All of the 'human' factions are unique. I don't think saying 'Mezari are in the game, so Vaulters are redundant' really stacks up. Aside from that, they have a great aesthetic, Opbot is a fantastic character, and the teleportation mechanics, especially in Endless Space 1, were a game changer.

I can appreciate the thought that weird and wonderful is fun. I'm sure we'd all be happy with any new faction. But in terms mechanical possibility, the Vaulters would still be unique. Hell, even the thought of something like instantly transferring population between systems opens up all kinds of defensive and optimisation strategies. Plus it seems a shame to leave their story unwritten.

Absolutely, I'm convinced now. :)
I just probably expected them less than others. I have a strong feeling that the Hissho will show up as playable at one point too.

Who knows what itll be. Opbot was a psycho if I remember right so who knows what it will be. Maybe he brought back the romulan empire from the neutral zone? Wait wrong series....

I'm happy they are bringing back an older faction. Makes the posibility to readd the sowers more likely.

Getting close to twitter announcement time! Since in EL the planet was destroyed my guess would be things hinted at in the lore but never written about in game.  OpBot brought something back to the game? Maybe a concrete hero from the lost?  Something to do with the lost or the forgotton would be my guess, since they are not mentioned in game anywhere.  Hopefully it is a new class of ship? Dreadnaught anybody? :-D Harmony?

I just hope its not a new game where we have to wait another 12 months before its released.

Can we start a betting pool? Just for fun of course, PM me for paypal info on the betting spread... (Just kdding!)

Personally, I think the vaulters will show up with Opbot being the focus of their quest, and a vaulter as the first hero. If this is a 2 faction release, I think the second will be one original to ES2.

Can't wait for the announcement! Trying to not get too over hyped as I expect it could just be the recent community challenge stuff with some AI and gameplay tweaks plus OpBot as a new hero all released on steam as DLC. That said the optimist in me wants an Endless Legend style DLC release with new faction and gameplay mechanic. Come on, don't let me down Amplitude ;-)

How does a small amount of people in a cruiser get big enough to be a space empire. How long ago was when the Grey owl left?

Personally If we had to get more Humans I think the Pilgrims with their ethos are the perfect foil to the UE ingame.

Well, the Argosi (probably how the Vaulters have survived since the Grey Owl was now destroyed by the unknown Lost Narrator) is a dreadnought/carrier class ship, making it massive. Furthermore, the ship was probably retrofitted to fit as many Vaulters onto it as possible, probably numbering in the thousands to 10,000-15,000. Which is a huge amount, and given the advanced technology found everywhere in the Endless Universe, it's not surprising that a group of thousands who are starting in the Space Age (if you look at civilization eras; it's this whole thing rating civilizations) grew to a population of probably tens of thousands.

Also, remember that space empires (especially in the Endless universe) don't need to be populated by millions upon millions of people due to the fact that a single fleet can invade and decimate entire worlds and that fleet is only numbering in the thousands of people and that time within the Endless Universe is very much warped.

The game probably starts decades after the Grey Owl explodes, which would be more than enough time for several thousand Vaulters to double, triple, quadruple in population. Especially when you account for the possible use of birthing pods, cloning, and then adding to their ranks of other human/Mezari peoples from across the galaxy (as the Vaulters were nomadic for a long time)

(however, the game could've started centuries instead of decades after the Grey Owl exploded, though there isn't exactly a timeline so this is just speculation, someone could probably correct me on that)

Just for some reference, humanity numbered around 1,000-10,000 (some studies actually say there were only 40 breeding pairs of homo sapiens) after the Toba supervolcano erupted in 70,000BC and now there's about 7.4billion) and that was at a pre-technology stage where people were still using stones to kill animals.

There are like 2 or three quotes that implies that the endless universe has a population in the trillions.

The fsct thst  horatio started his empire by the time that dungeon of the endless happened and his homesorld is probably populated by milliond if not billions supprt the

I never said the endless universe didn't have the population of billions, I said that you don't need a massive population to carve out a sizable chunk of space out for a faction. Since, in the context of the conversation, we were talking about the Vaulters, whose population was probably not in the millions when they first left Auriga, and I even pointed out that they could have had a massive population boom b/c of tech present in the Endless Universe. Please read the whole statement before trying to cherry pick a part that you think I may have made a mistake in.

(Also Horatio had cloning technology from the Endless, who were basically the Forerunners of the galaxy, so no shit he has within the millions to billions of people)

It's hard to read this thread and not be able to comment. Amplitude, I don't know how you do it.

Another hour and you'll all know what I know. I can't wait to squeal!
