I really wish the best of luck to the new team working on the new expansion. Hopefully they've understood from the community that there should be some gameplay fixes, before or with the new expansion. Has Amplitude now moved on to a new project?

Obviously I’m not a DEV, however, they have stated they’re working in collaboration with NGD on the next expansion and seeing how they have had some long-term projects for Endless Legend it wouldn’t make sense for them to completely abandon Endless Space 2 so soon.

I think most of the people are affected by the word from the blog post "departure". This kind of talk really unnecessary.

We still have seats on Ecologists & Religious parties. IMO that's already two expansions coming! It would be at least one or more years to go :)

Yeah, although Amplitude may want to specify what they meant by their use of "departure". Personally, I took it as them taking a big step out of contemporary 4x games by creating a faction that is declining (with the player's goals of preventing that decline) as opposed to the typical creating an empire (rising) role the player usually has with 4x factions.

Suis3i is correct about our used of departure. We "depart" from the traditional 4X gameplay by creating a faction that starts strong but stagnant, and will have to put in a lot of effort to keep up with the younger, more dynamic empires.

We are not departing from Endless Space 2 just yet. We are working together with NGD, not handing the game over in its entirety.

Can you please, please continue to work on making AI more competant?

Glad to hear confirmation on that, I remember seeing some comments on the original post regarding the announcement of a new faction that represented sentiments that people believed you guys were done with ES2 for good

I too understand what they really mean about the departure (because the sentence is clear) but on the internet, not everyone has the same understanding level of English. People are more tend to react to words. Thus result in pages of people questioning the game's integrity. Which is sad.

There is not much good space strategy games nowadays, especially related with galactic empire. I hope ES2 will remain or if you guys have plan to move into ES3 (^_^)v

But like where would it go? ES1 is still around so its not like they would take it off the market (and delete your games) even if they were going to depart...which they aren't.

And I don't think they are doing ES 3 yet.

I, too, would like this to happen but sadly it probably never will.

Yeah it is. It's interesting that in Endless Legend the AI is so much more competent with the Community Patch though. Are there things that the Devs aren't doing that they could to make it better?

Before the Community Patch in Endless Legend I thought the AI was so weak because it was asymetrical and thus that was the best that the devs could do. They were professional AI people afterall. But LeaderEnemyBoss blew my expectations away and made even the Allayi (usually just a dead from the start AI) competent and dangerous.

If there are things that they aren't doing to make the AI better I do have to ask why the hell not? If a single dude can cobble together something remarkable from seemingly nothing...why aren't the devs able to do something similar. There is a dedicated AI team at work on the game afterall.

I struggle on Hard with the Community Patch for Endles Legend. Everyone goes straight to Endless difficulty in this game. It is really annoying to see the diffculty levels be squandered like this.

People should worry far less about AI and more about playing the game with other people. Civilization VI had this same issue; swathes of people attacking the game almost entirely for its AI, leading to other elements of the game being criticized for no particular reason. This is especially heinous coming after Civilization V, where everyone understands that playing the game with other people is strictly better.

This is an issue with many games and many genres, but it is especially so with 4X games for some reason. An alarming number of people prioritize the AI over all else about a game when it comes to 4X.

If you want to argue that AI should be more than an afterthought, then sure, try that. However, that topic always becomes "there needs to be a proper linear campaign", as it should, because that's the logical conclusion of focusing on AI. The problem is that a proper linear campaign is something that makes your game require at least twice as many resources if you want to do it right, and there is always a very real fear that serious work on a campaign would take away from the rest of the game. This is probably why the Quest system exists as it does.

So, AI is not as important as people swear, focusing on AI is lot more dangerous to a multiplayer game project than people think, and people like to buy games during huge discounts as if to tell the developers they shouldn't put as much effort into a given game... Hmm, nah, worrying less about AI is the smart decision. Those who truly care will make a mod for it, as was done with Endless Legend. That's what mods are for, after all: doing the things that the developers didn't want to or couldn't do.

^^ won't question this. The trouble is that some (lots) of us simply cannnot play MP due to personal agendas or other reasons.
