You've got an Era system AND The Unfallen, what do you want more ? :p

I really really like the OP's idea.
It's really a smart compromise between the Tree &Era. I would love to have a talk with the Amplitude guy that have this side of the gamedesign.

Including IRL. If he reads this, I'll buy him any beers he wants. I said any, that's about numbers and / or quality :p

(yeah, k, clumsy bribe & stuff)

Rather, it brings the question of how you failed to see various devs' posts, especially as they are highlighted in the ribbon above each forum section. The tech tree was mentioned in the Devblog, specifically. It's not ideal, but being disparaging about Games Together doesn't help and, besides, somewhere else on the forums they said it was a particularly busy period for them atm with Paris Game Show.

"Yes we are looking into the tech system, not sure yet when it will come depending on the scope of the changes."

I would love to agree with you, but they've already answered again since then. The "scope of the changes" they're referring is still this stupid Era system, just tweaking it a little. I assume the reason everything else got a reply except for that one issue, is because there wasn't really a good way of saying "sucks to be you guys".

I do agree with you that Games Together shouldn't be lamented, because it did great things for the other three games originally, and is one of the biggest reasons I fell in love with Amplitude. But since the website update, it's been used less often, and in the particular case of Endless Space 2, it feels especially cruel that it's being used for superficial things, rather than dealing with the massive issues many have with the game.

Didn't they allow a full major ES2 faction to be created by the community? Lore, visual design, the works? I guess a lot of people have strong opinions and it's never going to work trying to please everyone. Era system or Tree, someone will end up disappointed.

About costs, I'm not sure that the super expensive techs today have to do or not with the alpha version balancing of the game.

There's 3 eras, in my turn 210 Sophon game, I still have a lot to unlock.

So I guess those costs comes with the idea of being lengthy enough (because if that goal were there, I can't imagine winning by Science today under turn... say 300 ?).

I disagree about spliting techs in two techs. I sort of like it this way.

Uh, what people are doing so many turns??

Usually as Craver I am at Sophon's capital by turn 60-70 with t2 hull Slicers, on Endless diff

On topic: It would be lovely to see devs actually read and acknowledge the glaring problems with tech tree.

I am yet to see a single dev comment on these forums on hot topics.

Which brings the question what this "Games Together" farce is all about?

I was experimentating "all techs", until I understood I couldn't have all techs until 100 turns or more.

On that game I'm alone on the field, I conquered last planet with the "culture tech" that makes you win planets with influence (which is a way too easy method btw : you can't defend and the change of soverainty is like "ON/OFF").

The game allows you to continue past this point, which is somehow nice but the turns are so long that I should make another game to continue to explore the tech tree.

I live in Paris, like Amplitude. Tomorow is an official holyday, lot of Paris people took today.

I'm not sure Amplicrew would do many forum posting today, I think they should be debreifing PGS or something.

Remember, it's a public alpha, not a public beta though. There will be lots of changes.

Yea this kind of my gripe exactly, I registered here expecting a busy community and devs responding back and forth.

But these forums are pretty much dead, lol.

Only dev posts I see are pinned, saying "Ok whatever, this is how we gonna do it", and then they don't even bother replying to any feedback like "But guys, this sucks!".

Right, the game show.

Well, we will see then. I doubt there is anything more we can add to make them see how terrible the current teching implementation is.

To me, it's somehow "meh" that factions have to learn to colonize their home planet's climate.

I can understand from a science point of vue, but let's imagine we, as Terrans, find a temperate planet to colonize => would we wait to be in space to colonize the planet or would we know how to colonize another temperate planet before going there (allready knowing stellar travel) ?

I can understand there's enough differences for a new planet of the same type to learn the tech.

But I can't understand why "it's so hard", with a fixed "tree" for factions having the unfortune of having home planet colonizations being in very late techs.

I think faction should have specialized trees.

BUT

There is a problem doing this : this means we would have problems crafting custom factions (if any).

Not a problem at all. Much like how the first Endless Space just assigned technology tree and home planet to whatever core you borrowed (Cravers, for example), Endless Space 2 would just link those back up. If you're referring to people modding in custom races, that's fine too, the modders can always play with both those elements to get them working just fine.

All these are valid points. Though I'd just refer to this proposal here: https://www.games2gether.com/endless-space-2/forum/66-game-design/thread/21582-suggestion-new-colonisation-tech-system

It covers all of your points I think, so maybe give it an upvote. ^^
