Vodyani Rework Steam Mod.

I tried it for a couple of games before the xpac, and Vodyani feels a lot-lot better and easier to get into. For anyone who likes the idea/visuals of Vodyani but can't quite grasp their playstyle or finding it lacking, I'd say to grab the mod!

Which mods is it incompatible with? If I know the modder we can get the lines in shared ClassEmpire so it's compatible.


Regarding food, I was considering options for it. I'm just concerned that when I was initially working with conversions for food if they were available early they were somewhat over effective, I could consider assigning some sort of infinite - rather than passive - conversion to later on. Would Essence be preferred? It does somewhat go against the the established trend that the pops don't require food if there is then a way for direct conversion of food to Essence, though.


As for the pop bonus, I do comprehend the initial confusion and have had to explain the logic behind this a few times. The base Vodyani pop has +4 FIDS and is boostable, which results in it being +8 FIDS in the base game. I simply averaged that out as they are no longer boostable. Since the mod imposes limits on the main source of Vodyani potential - the unlimited stacking of Ark FIDSI modules - I considered it a fair compromise. As you are locked to one pop type, it seems fair you get the best ones.


I may reconsider this alongside a new approach I'm testing for the modules.

I've subscribed to the mod and have been meaning to try it. Haven't gotten around to it because I'm annoyed by the unmoddable problem which is the inability to have multiple ark designs and retrofit from one to another. (Edit: and the current bugginess of the Righteous Fury law, where you can leech but not invade systems while at cold war). I agree the Vodyani need some more love from the devs.

One of my favorite mods, alas it's incompatible with a few other things I've got going at the moment otherwise it'd always be in my rotation.


@Aitarus: Howdy! I think I mentioned it on the comments that the one big bit of feedback is I'd like some sort of option to convert system Food into Essence so the reworked Vodyani have a reason to hang out on Fertile planets outside of the Happiness bonus, given at the moment both Food and Population slots (The big reasons to snap up Tier 0 planets) are irrelevant on them. Even Riftborn take them for their various Minor Factions, which the Vodyani don't get. And I will say +6 IDS is... really good. Good enough to make a strong start a very strong start. I can see why people in Multiplayer might balk at it. Of course, I also play with a mod that happens to reduce Riftborn to +2 Dust/Science +4 Industry, and they're still quite fun to play, so I feel you can make the Vodyani Pop weaker without keeping them from being an incredibly potent Pop in their own right. Maybe making them +2 IDS, +50 System Manpower? Make it harder to take Arks with a dedicated Manpower fleet early on.

Thank you for the feedback, I am glad to hear that you liked it. It's true that Vodyani need a lot of love and I do hope that by making this mod I can encourage the devs to consider some of my solutions for them. Even the Vodyani AI plays better with it!


I would be curious what issues people have with it that would lead them to declining to play with it, I have not gotten the impression that it makes the faction by any means OP - with the exception of a few pre-balance pass features. If anything it tunes their potential down a lot.


I am always open to hear what else should be amended or altered.
