Happy and Ecstatic people shouldn't react to Influence pressure

GDD says:

each turn the difference between the influence generated by the influent system and the influenced system is added to a gauge. When the gauge reaches a certain positive threshold, the system is ready for conversion, which needs to be bought in Influence.

It's looks very odd to me if Happy or Ecstatic people could decide to look for better life in other empire. You know, they're already happy.

How about ignoring an influence pressure if mood is very good, or decrease mood first (because of jealousy)?

the way it would work for us, it that by being happy and ecstatic, they would definitely contribute to a strong resistance to foreign influence. So it will be hard to take over a system that has been happy for a long time.

Happiness levels should probably alter the resistance (or vulnerability) to foreign influence, I agree.

I don't think an Ecstatic system should be entirely immune, vut "highly resistant" is definitely in order.

What about:

  • Ecstatic ... 3x resistance (meaning, it takes three times as much Influence to shift the system's allegiance)
  • Happy ... 2x resistance
  • Content ... 1x resistance
  • Unhappy ... 0.50x resistance
  • In Rebellion ... 0.25x resistance

That would make it a LOT more important to keep morale up on your border worlds: they're close enough to the fence to SEE the grass on the other side, so you better make sure YOUR grass is well-watered, right?

I suppose, right now it works in similar way: taking into account difference between your and neighbor's system Influence. The bigger the gap, the faster conversion is.

It's okay, but I think mood has to affect the formula too:

  1. if neighbor is Happy, your system In rebellion will be converted faster than Neutral;
  2. but if you and your neighbor are both on the same mood level, or even if you are Ecstatic when neighbor is Happy or less, conversion looks strange.

In last case (Ecstatic vs Happy) you even could receive some bonuses
