Hi,

Never tested in game, but imagine a situation like the following picture:

These are four enemy systems, one with a company HQ, another with a subsidiary and two more in the middle. The game can calculate two trading routes paths: the blue or the yellow.

If you want to block an enemy trade route and for some reason can't put your fleet just over the HQ or its subsidiary, how will you know if the calculated route goes through system A or B?

Think that this is a simplified model, and this can get more complex, also it can affect other factions (just read the last part of this idea)

Actually I didn't found any way to see where enemy trade routes are passing through. Sometimes (like companies HQ or bottle necks) you can suppose, but never see it.

My proposal is to allow you see this routes in scan screen (giving also more interest to it). I actually see two ways:

  • The option to choose the faction to see (like moving to center in diplo screen). The one I like most, but has the trouble you can't see various factions at same time.
  • Drawing each faction routes with faction color at same time. Has the trouble can be confusing with too much info overlapping, but allows to see various trade routes at same time.

I also propose various ways to unlock it, but not having a preferred one, so won't comment on them:

  • Have this ability for free from game start.
  • Unlock via tech or Era.
  • Unlock related to your trade companies lvl or number of trade companies (look at this as industrial espionage, that your companies do on their own, and pass info to you)
  • Relate to espionage or similar in future DLC

As side thoughts, someway related to this:

  • Consider diplomatic impact if you block neutral (to say not at war / not allied) empires. So 3rd parties affected by blockades will react to it at some lvl. This will give also more interest in knowing where trade routes are.
  • If you like the idea consider hide the HQ and subsidiaries from other factions until you reach a commercial agreement or unlock through the ways I suggested for seeing trade routes.

Thanks for reading!

I think an unlock is the way to go, there is a raider tech we can research now to make fleets with no markings, it doesent work right now but its there.
