I don't know if the devs are planning on supporting steam workshop but they definitely should. It makes it much easier to sustain an active modding community.

Seconding this idea. The other games have been moddable, so I don't see why ES2 would break the chain. Adding Steam Workshop support would make pretty much everyone happy, I'd wager. Not sure how much work goes into setting that up, but I'm pretty sure it'd be worth the time and effort.
