I think this would be interesting space to explore where there is a job market, and not just a shopping market, where there are service providers that your faction can hire to gain certain benefits.


I think of it as like hiring the Forgotten from Endless Legend. Basically, make a set up a bidding system that will temporarily unlock a certain Research Technology that the highest bidder gains.


For example, a Market announcement would be made that a PR firm is offering their services (Approval bonus). The provide a minimum bid, and will go to the faction with the highest bid after 5 turns. Each turn every faction can meet the minimum and then add more to their bid. The highest bid gains the benefit for a certain duration. In the case of a tie, both factions would gain the benefit, but the bid would remain open to those factions, and if another faction out-bids the other, then they gain it exclusively.


I think it gives a nice element of miniature competition to the game. The event system is designed to do this, but honestly, I feel like they are too predetermined in that, for example, if the person with the most Food will gain a benefit, it's probably just going to go to the faction who was doing that anyways rather than create an incentive to change gameplay.


Keeping the benefits limits so that the costs can be small enough that most factions/strategies can find room to make a bid, means that there will be a higher engagement and degree of interaction with it.

I totally can see this going.


The job market's bonus could be applied to many different scenarios we could think of, like some examples I could think of:


1. A mining company offers their service to the highest bidder: Increased production of strategic resources per turn for a limited time or +15 of 3 random types of strategic resource 

2. An exploration guild/organization is looking for willing parties to back their expedition: +2 probes for every ship class for a limited time or One/more unexplored system is automatically revealed to the highest bidder

3. A private military company is offering their services to potential clients: +300 manpower per turn for a limited time or research bonus on military tactic technologies

4. A political think tank is in need of funding: Cheaper election action costs for the next election or Highly increased effectiveness of election actions for the next election


Yes, I can see many potentials for this idea, although balancing must be applied not to make the bonuses overpowered/underwhelming. 


Maybe it would work if the rewards are scaled with how much the highest bid is?


Edit: The "or" -s in the bonuses are not choices, it's more like the potential rewards we could get from the bid

And the bidding could be made with luxury resources ! So that they would be put to good use.
