Assigning Ships to Heroes

Just as it sounds, I, as the leader of my great nation, should be able to purchase and outfit new ship-types of various hull-sizes for my heroes. I understand the concept of "well, this is their personal ship," but if the guy you worked for suddenly offered you a $2,000,000 car for nothing other than "I think it'll make you better at your job," wouldn't you take that car?
