Ship Communication During Battle Scenes

I really enjoy watching the battle videos, but I find them to be a little lifeless at times. My idea is to add communication between your ships, or perhaps your ships and 'fleet command' (i.e. you).

Couple of basic ideas of what this could add to the game besides more fluff during combat:

  1. Your ships could make statements about the effectiveness of their design against the particular enemy. For instance, if the energy weapons you have installed on your escorts don't seem to be able to break through the hull of the other ship, the ship commander would say in a distressed voice that the "Pulse lasers aren't breaking though their hull!" Or if they are really effective the voice could be excited.
  2. Each hero could have their own unique voice overs
  3. Ships could communicate with each other based on the given battle orders. carriers requesting assistance from escorts, or cruisers announcing that they're taking damage.

The status of this idea has been changed to OUT OF VISION as it is not compatible with our vision of the game because it conflicts with the game's design principles, or it is contradictory with an existing in-game feature, or it is technically impossible to implement it in the game.

The thought of screams over the comms when a ship goes down, Captains motivating there crews, calls for abandoning ship. I like it. Ive seen something similar in gratuitous space battles, but it was just a text line, but it added a little flavor to the situation.

Eventually with the adding of fighters hearing there communications between fighter groups would be nice. Rouge one was good for that.

I don't think I want to hear info about weapon effectiveness, but I definitely want to see it. Like, nearby ship HP, shield etc

All of those ideas are great! The only downside I see to adding sound like this would be if too few verbal statements were added. If you ever played Bloodbowl a great example from that game would be the announcers. It added a lot of great commentary at first. Eventually however you've heard everything and without it adding anything of actual worth (i.e. conveying useful information to the player) it became old and annoying.

If it was part of the scanner View like when you hit the spacebar, and there would be text over units. For example this place is critically damaged, fire on each deck things like that. I'm hungry for a crater.

Good aestetical improvement and very cool.

It also makes better sense than guns noise in the void.

As I see this is not a priority in actual game status, but a cool thing to have on release.

Also It will be good if can give you info, as long as you can have same info in after battle reposrt in case you skip battle.

I really likes this idea. Maybe it could even be optional for those who would not like to listen to communication during battle scenes.

It’s an interesting idea which unfortunately:

—Will cost too much as we need to cast actors for the voice-over, in addition to adding subtitles (for non-native speakers of the selected language)

—Is design-wise complicated: should they communicate in English? Natural language? How many lines is enough to have sufficient variety? That's a lot of headache for our writers, who are already hard at it on Diplomacy

Still, we are still working on giving more life to the battle cinematic, and in my opinion, you should see progress with the upcoming update!

Cheers,

Yeah mate totally agree... the battles are missing a little flavour and this idea would make it a lot more exciting and entertaining for sure, big thumbs up, I want this in the game!
