Later in the game you should be able (With a huge amount of industry of course) to have a research option to build "Plain Planets" (Planets that have virtually no industry, dust, science, or food). the first research would only allow you to build small planets then to get larger from there. Then you can terraform the planet that then allows them to start producing FIDS.

Just read this, after I posted my own comment on the same idea

"Add Dyson spheres and/or ring worlds as an option for Stage 5 Economy and Trade, that can only be deployed in systems without any planets. They would be an empty shell to start with and appropriate technologies would be added to focus FIDS production. This may seem harsh, but then you are creating an artificial world in the middle of nowhere  "

I thought something similar. I have an issue with the reality check (both, in and out of the game). The resources needed to "make a planet" are literally a whole planet. What I mean is, to make a planet, you need to consume a planet. There is no comparable scale of anything made in the game that is at that level. Also, to make a Dyson sphere (which i think to be a very exciting idea and would love to be able to do) you would need to consume a whole planet to be able to make the sphere. I don't mean its resources, I mean the planet. ALL OF IT. Which takes me to the in-game issues with it. Making planets appear and deappear. Don't think it's on the game mechanics.  And finally, a Dyson Sphere would be and "end game" wonder. If you have one, you have infinite amounts of energy. Also if you do make a Dyson Sphere, the star wouldn't be visible anymore.

I know very "realistic" comments from my part . They are nice ideas anyway and would ceartanly be interesting to have.

I'm sure there could be a project that could subvert planet building. Like using asteroids as parts. This is is science fiction not science reality after all.
