Hello everybody,

We have exciting news to share today, Relic Entertainment, our sister studio at SEGA, is launching a new community website powered by Games2Gether for their new game, Company of Heroes 3

When we joined SEGA back in 2016, we were delighted to be joining a publisher that shared and supported our values of working together with the community to create great games. We were also excited by the prospect of working together with SEGA’s other strategy studios, and exchanging knowledge and experience with them has been an invaluable asset over these past 5 years. Many of us are fans of Relic’s games, so we were thrilled that they were interested in our G2G philosophy and technology.

The team at Relic are amazing people, they were very curious about how we have been co-creating games with you. We have tried to share with them all our experiences these last couple of years, and we are sure they will make great use of our platform for community co-creation. We may be even more excited about the big project they decided to use Games2Gether for: Company of Heroes 3 !

In fact, if you are excited about the new title in this series as well, you can already try it and give them your feedback through their very own platform.

So please, go check out the COH3 Pre-Alpha Preview, from our friends and colleagues at Relic, available now!

Hey all,

In full transparency, we (Amplitude and Relic) discussed the different approaches: should we have 1 portal to rules them all, or different platforms for each studio?

As Amplitude, it made sense to have everyone under the same flag with unified accounts. But Relic has an historic userbase and a strong branding that they wanted to preserve.

We wanted to provide them with a custom solution that allows them to engage with their community and profit from our platform, but also fits their needs in term of userbase ownership and strong branding -- so we ended up with this solution. Maybe one day, in the future, those things will change, but for now we're excited to see that Relic is getting a lot of success with their users on this solution and has already a very lively community on their platform.

I strongly disagree, with the two separate accounts, but I rapidly signed up just to make sure that I didn't have to fight someone for my username in the future incase there is integration in the future.

fair and makes sense if thats what they want, tho like a button somewhere on the games2gether site to go to the company of heroes site / version of games2gether or something would be nice, rather then having to go to google and search it

Well, CoH is not my cup of tea, so hoping I'll jump in with next Dawn of War or something. Wish them luck!

It does sound reasonable, I imagine that they wouldn't like 'their' place to be invaded by some (Endless) aliens, it would probably be more intimidating for their own fanbase to approach place with already established community, much easier to get 2gether down the line, when they already have their own thing built and going strong.

I just casually played some matches of CoH in the past, not my cup of tea either, but from what I've seen on streams the campaign may prove to be interesting enough to give it a try.

Thanks for the explanation, I didn't expect one!

It makes sense that they wouldn't want to piss off their community heavy-weights by starting them from zero against the veteran G2G folk but I hope a merge happens in the not too distant future.

I have to admit, I have mixed feelings about this game.  Mostly from fears.  I'm a big fan of Relic's work.  Massive fan of the Homeworld series and absolutely loved Company of Heroes 1.  But I have to admit, I didn't really enjoy Company of Heroes 2.  I didn't like the loss of many of the base building mechanics.  Everything just came from one man FOB (Forward Operating Base) that was practically prebuilt for you.  Gone were the days of balancing your eco with your war machine because you could say build more tank factories, or your in a pinch and need feet on the ground quickly go build more barracks but build them offsite so you can flank the enemy nearing your main base.  There was none of that.  No shifting resources.  No real adaptability of your war machine.  Just the one base and you just capture resource points on the map.  It played more like a basic tug of war game, rather than a fleshed out and deep strategy game.

But what soured my experience the most, were the randomized reward packs (aka loot boxes) that were used to buff your stats and abilities in a competitive online game or even give you new abilities.  Such as with the Commanders.  It just felt wrong.  It was a strategy game that didn't feel like everyone was playing from the same balanced rule book.  Particularly if you were a new player.  I know there's something to be said for collectables, but these just felt like the completely wrong type of collectables for a game of this genre.  And to make matters worse, a lot these commanders and bonuses were sold as microtransactions on in game store.... Buffs... To be used in a competitive multiplayer game... Just sold in an in game store... Not to mention that I already have a severe negative bias against Loot Boxes and/or Loot Box "like" mechanics.  I'm sorry, but COH2 just left a huge sour taste in my mouth and just completely pushed me out of that game experience as a result.  COH2 is not what I look for in a strategy game.

That's why with COH3, I'm really worried.  If it's more like COH1, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.  But if it's like COH2, I'm sorry to say I'll be staying well clear.  But I will offer a sincere congratulations and good luck to Relic regardless.  I still love your work and you do have at least one other project in the works that I really am very excited for.
