Really confused with Battle Actions

I'm trying to understand all the effects of the Battle Action cards, but it's really confusing me. Especially since I can't slow down, pause, or replay battles. There's a ton of numbers on these cards, but it's not clear to me what they're affecting. Can using a Battle Action actually hurt you? Do some of them debuff your own fleet? Or are all they buffs to your fleet? Apparently the Wiki says the in game descriptions on the Battle Actions are wrong. Is this still the case?

One of my problems is that it's not clear to me always if a number is affecting my fleet or the enemy fleet. The cards don't make that clear. They just list a positive or negative number, but don't say if that's applying to your fleet or the enemy fleet. I'm also not sure how the block percentages are applied. Are the block percentages added onto the existing number or do the block percentages just take the place of the existing number?

For example Magnetic Field. +40% (+10%) deflector efficiency -20% (+20%) beam damage

So does that mean all your ships get a 40% defence bonus against Kinetic weapons? Or does that mean that only your ships with Deflectors get a 40% defence bonus against Kinetic weapons? Then there's the 10% Block bonus. So that would make it 50%?

Now the Beam Damage. Is that saying that my own ships beam damage is 20% less or does that apply to the enemy fleet? The Block bonus is 20%. Does that mean if I block then it would be 0%? Or does that mean it would be -40%?

This is just one example of how confused I am. I could go through almost every card and list how I'm confused.

Hello Riekopo,

If you want to analyse the cards, you can look at them by selecting a fleet, and then pressing the Battle Cards button (at the top of the interface, just above the list of ships).

For the fleet that is affected, it's written in the bonus description when it affects the opponents. By default, it's your fleet that is affected.

The block bonus is applied when your battle card blocks the opponent's card and is added to the previous percentage. For instance, Magnetic Field. +40% (+10%) deflector efficiency -20% (+20%) beam damage will:

  • Increase your deflector efficiency by 40% but lower your beam damages by 20% if you play the card without countering the opponent
  • Increase your deflector efficiency by 50% without affecting your beam damages if you block the opponent.

Don't hesitate if you have other questions,

Cheers

... Those percentages don't really add up....

The interesting question, though I believe I already know the answer, is his second inquiry: If you don't actually have a given defence, can you still take a penalty?

Haha I was tired this morning ^^ I used the value assigned to the beam for both effects

Yes, you can; there is no restriction. In that case, the penalties will be applied on nothing and thus won't have concrete effect. Still, being defenceless against a weapon is always risky smiley: smile
