I like the idea of custom names, portraits and lore, maybe over the mechanical templates of other heroes. I think that could work nicely with custom factions, especially if you could change the faction/leader portrait, too.

This is a great idea but it would need to be balanced carefully. It would need to be costly, either in resources (lore would indicate dust should be used, and lost of it), build time, or research (probably all three). It should probably also be tied to a build-able Academy on only one or two systems per empire (if you loose those systems you can no longer make your own heroes, and building an academy should INCREASE the normal hero wait time -even if you loose your academy). I think there should also be an element of risk in the process, like you can build your own heroes but something can go horribly in the process (like heroes die or turn evil or something).



Basic Idea:

1. Use Applied Science Tree to research an Academy building (only build-able on your capital or a world with a Wonder) -- Approx 5000 research needed

2. Build Academy -- takes 5000 Industry

a. On completion hero recruitment becomes less a priority so PERMANENT doubletime new hero recruitment (unless built at the Academy)

3. Build New Custom Hero (assign hero traits and name) -- maybe 500 industry AND 2000 dust AND 500 research (or something)

4. When hero finishes building there is a 15% chance that the process kills your new hero, a 10% chance that he/she goes mad and destroys the academy, AND a 5% percent chance that the Hero is made but is available to EVERY faction EXCEPT yours. - 40% Fail rate, 5% epic fail rate, 60% and you get a new hero smiley: smile

YES they would , when I first played them and saw the good heroes pop up I was like...wat da fak... I was so confused.

I think this would be nice. I found it a little odd to play as the Craver and than watch heroes from other species pop up. Wouldn't the Craver race just, you know, eat them?

I wanted to make a suggestion about this, but instead of a "hero" I would like to think of it as a "profile" if we are talking about a sort of Emperor (Current heroes would then be seen as captains/admirals/governors, and they are already customizable in some ways). A profile may then contain an avatar (picture, bio, stats... and skills), and I believe the profile should be related to a race (so you can select your profile/avatar/emperor only after selecting the race). I thought, in my "vision" that this profile should actually be persistent (as long as not deleted) and be able to gain levels or any form of experience to buy skills (general empire improvements of many types), but also loose them (levels, skills, XP, from defeats). This would be quite interesting for PvP later on as well. Now that is just a short summary, if I get time to do so I will post a more detailed suggestion (with all things I have in mind).



That would make the game become a 5X!!! smiley: biggrin

The only difference between the custom hero and the default ones you select from would be the picture and possibly a few extra perks. They wouldnt be some super god or anything because that would just change up the game.

With the amount of abilities available, heroes are pretty diverse, and getting two of the same would be hard, unless you set out to make two of the same. I have had two randomly generated heroes with the same picture and starting skills and traits, but as a I said, there are lots of abilities to chose from. I am often tossing up between a couple and I wouldn't waste a hero to make another identical to one I already have. The only thing I like about this idea is that you get one with a unique picture, which I have to admit I think would be pretty cool. If this were to be implemented, I'd like to have pay for them at the start still. Otherwise you'd make them a governor every time.



Or at least I would.

Ehhhh, I'm in the middle mostly, but I'm leaning to no. The heroes are limited and they are randomized, you have to work with what you got, I like the extra strategy element there. At the same time, custom heroes could be pretty cool. I'm 49% Yes and 51% no on this one.

I'd like to see mortality among heroes, by events, by combat, etc. So I'm not sure I'm a huge fan of having a unique avatar hero who wouldn't die...

I think for a strong RPG aspect it would be cool to have some sort of starting general or leader for a fleet at the begging of every game. This would include possibly a custom portrait (for multiplayer) or selection. The stats could either be random rolls or selected along with 1-2 starting points for traits. Just a thought.

I like the customization options a lot, but the hero just doesn't somehow fit in there. Love it how you can make your own ships. Custom hero though, I don't see as that valuable asset to the gameplay.

Yes for the customization, put your own portrait, name, description, maybe choose his two traits, but I don't think he should me more powerful that the standard heroes.

In civ you choose a leader. But it's like the faction traits (gameplaywise). But I, too, would like to see some representation of myself in the game.

Yes, that's what i meant^^ It's a hero but a little bit special because it's you (your avatar in the game), with some additionnal skills (maybe a level 25 and new skills).

I dont understand your question lol. Yes.. hero to lead the fleets. Just like any other random one that would appear at start except this one would be created either pre-game or during. The purpose would be to increase the players involvement and personalized fell.

You're talking about a special hero, a kind of "emperor"?
