A quick question about Battle Actions

Hello.

So I have been playing the game (with Disharmony) for a while.

There is something I wonder about the Battle Actions though and haven´t managed to find an answer to (actually, I have seen contradicting claims, which is why I am asking here).

I understand how the actions work when they block another card, in that the *blocking* card gets a bonus.

However, do all Battle Actions lose their effect when they are *blocked*?

I learnt the hard way that this is the case for Offensive Retreat which does nothing if blocked (and seemingly the same for Emergency Shelters), but I wonder of this is the case for all blocked actions?

Thanks

I'm kind of a newbie myself so take this with a grain of salt, but I thought the effect of what happens if your card is blocked is listed on the specific card? They all seem to differ, which makes some cards worth a lot more vs. others.

For example on some cards it lists in parentheses after the main attribute of the card some info - like if you play the card and it is not blocked then you get more dmg on your weapons (but then shows in parentheses a negative value to your dmg if your card is successfully blocked.

Most cards seem to come in the category of you get +X boost if your card is not blocked, but you lose -X if your card gets blocked. So kind of a reward v risk scenario where you're hoping you don't get blocked otherwise you get more a negative than if you had not played the card at all.

There's a few cards, can't recall names at moment, though that is kinda win-win because if you success unblocked you get a bigger X boost, but even if you're blocked you still get a smaller positive X boost, so no way to lose by playing that card.

Not exactly. The effects in parenthesis are what happens when the card/action is blocking another card, and these effects are additive. For example, Magnetic Field gives +40% Deflector Efficiency and -20% Beam Damage when played and it does not block another card, while giving +50% deflect efficiency (40%+10%) and no beam damage penalty (-20% + 20%) when it blocks another card.

What seems to be the case, especially after looking at the xml files, is that blocked cards have no effect at all, but I would like to have a clear answer on if this is a generic effect or if it just happens for some cards.

Ok thanks for the explanation, still learning the game and love tips like this.

Don't know the answer obviously but think I now understand your original question - so what you're trying to confirm is that while you know what happens when you get the block bonus (because you successfully blocked their card), the card that got blocked may have zero effect?

Like say the opponent plays a card that gives X normally, plus the block boost Y if it successfully blocks a card.

You play a card that is a blocker to the card above, so you get your card buff + block bonus - but the opponent gets neither X or Y because his card was blocked.

I would have thought he would at least get the X for playing his card, but sounds like what you're saying is the card that gets blocked gets nothing.

Exactly. I know that some cards do nothing at all when blocked (Offensive Retreat, Emergency Shelter) and am wondering if this is true for all cards.

Looking at the card's implementation in the xml files this seems to be the case, though. Just want to know for sure as it is a bit difficult to test this with most of the cards...
