hello,

i found a problem during at the end of the game : the inifnite battle

let me explain

i'm playing against AI, but at the late game (200~300 turns) the enemy becomes invisible

i tried everything : lasers, kinetic and missile specialisation on my fleet, but his fleet still immortal

he makes dreadnought with high defense .. so i tried to change my strategy with using cruiser or destroyer ... but it's not better than making dreadnought like the AI

finally the battle lasts 8 or 10 turns to eliminate all the enemy fleet !

do you have any strategy to fight this ?

Are you playing with Disharmony? Which race are you playing as? Could you give us an example of your ship design.

Turn 300 is quite late in the game. I assume you have Dreadnoughts and most of the technology.

1. Are you specializing your fleets? Each defense protects only against one type of weapon and only a certain amount, you can overwhelm their defenses. If your ship has all weapons types your opponents' defenses will be more effective since none will be wasted. This also applies to a lesser extent for fleets if multiple ships with different weapon types are attacking one ship. Having different fleets with different weapons forces your opponent to have all defenses instead of specializing (not sure if the AI takes that into account).

2. What targeting are you using? You might want to try guillotine or nose breaker. Spread fire is useful if your enemy has lightly armored but dangerous ships in the back or if you do too much damage to a ship and waste the extra damage. This doesn't sound like your problem.

3. Long Range Kinetics are overpowered compared to the other options.

4. Since you have large fleet sizes, try using the fleet power modules. The highest level one (top right of warfare tree) gives +15% damage, +10% crit chance, +10% defense for the entire fleet. These bonuses stack for each ship in the fleet (I think). Try putting one on every ship.

5. Do you need to defeat the enemy fleet directly? Can you attack multiple systems at the same time and start invade/bomb/assault them? You can use troops to invade enemy worlds or bombs to destroy their buildings/troops. If they can't rebuild their infrastructure they can't rebuild their destroyed ships. You can also try another victory type if you have those enabled but it sounds like you don't.

6. You are maxing out your fleets right? More firepower at once deals more damage at once. It scales faster than you would think since defenses only mitigate some damage.

7. Missiles are tricky because of flak. Unlike other defenses, flak protects the entire fleet against missiles instead of each ship. If the enemy isn't heavily using missiles, use less flak per ship.

I would try building dreadnoughts with the fleet power modules, fitted with just enough defenses/armor to just survive one combat encounter with a major enemy fleet. The rest of the tonnage would be filled with one kind of weapon, Kinetics or beams in long or medium range. Don't forget the extra tonnage module. i would use guillotine targeting or nosebreaker depending on which destroys more ships. Max out each fleet with ships, if you have spare capacity in your fleet add 1CP ships with fleet power modules and possibly repair or engine modules. You could also try smaller ships to get more fleet power modules.

See if that helps you out. If not, give some more details on your situation and we'll see what we can do. For instance, if you are playing against the Sheredyn they get Dreadnoughts that cost 3CP instead of 4. That would be tricky to beat. I haven't encountered your situation personally so I'm guessing at some of my advice. Tell me what works out for you even if you don't need help.
