Question from a non hardcore 4x (more of s SoSE) player

Hi, I saw this on steam and it really got me interested in the game. I tried SotS and some others but many times the interface was way to cluttered and the game convoluted. Longtime players of the genre probably find it fine, but so far the only 4x game I really like was Sins of a Solar Empire. It was all in real time, had easy to learn gameplay, and made sense gui wise to me. So my question is, is this a game for me? I love to huge space empires and battles but the turn based nature of the main map really makes me hesitant since all of the other turn based games I tried made everything so complex. I prefer the way SoSE seamlessly made everything happen in real time but I do enjoy playing Civ as the UI is done so elegantly. The trailer for this game makes me think the UI is well done, but again, would like to hear from actual players.

From all I have read the ui is supposed to be really nice with this game. However pretty much none of this game is in real time. The combat is the closest to real time but it still isn't controllable like sins

A good game that is a pretty large scale complex rts type game like sins is distant worlds but you need to get it and the expansion to uave a usuable ui. The graphics are also pretty low end mostly but it is a really fun game. It is only 2d as well.

I'm also a little hesitant with the lack of any real time aspects to this game but I think they may have pulled it off to a point where I like it. I mean the total war games are turned based except for combat.

I am probably still gonna get this game. I can't get my money back for that terrible game sots2 and armada 2526 just really seems kinda shallow really so I never play it anymore either.

No it is not like Sins in my brief play of the beta as this game actually has some depth.

The game is womewhat easy to understand, but there's a lot of things to learn first.

Then the ui is far from cluttered.

The learning curve is not that big frankly. Lots of the stuff is really intuitive and the UI is very nice, as in beautiful and functional

The trailers and videos does make it sound promising

Wait so the combat itself isn't in real time? O.o So basically this game is purely a Civ in space kind of deal. I don't know if I want another civ clone, but space is a really fun setting. Wish more people focused on combat instead of managing tons of stats like I see most of these games do. I do like alot of the stuff in Endless Space though, so hmmm. Emperor Edition allows you to suggest features to dev, maybe I'll take the plunge and get this game.

I'm not sure what you're defining depth as, to me sins had tons of depth :/

The UI is what got me here in the first place. It looked alot better than some of the other 4x games I tried.

The combat is faux real time. You do get to control the tactics from what I have heard in 3 stages of the combat sequence. I am downloading right now so I wont know more for a little while yet

This has me picturing a cross between GalCiv 2 and Gratuitous Space Battles.

Damn beaten to that analogy by seconds. If the tactical combat isn't the focus and the rest of the game has enough depth, then honestly I'd be fine with this.

Well I decided to bite the bullet and pre order it. I'll be honest, I hate the turn base nature of the game, but the game is the first 4x game where the UI really did make sense. I'm only on my 30ish turn but I do like how its easy to tell where things are. The combat has to be the worse thing I ever played in a game though. I'm basically playing rock paper scissors spock while pre scripted ships give me pretty fireworks... Overall I do really like the presentation of the game though.
