I would never have guessed this game wasn't an RTS from the trailer. Impressive! If money wasn't so tight I'd pre order the Emperor Edition right now. Like I said in my hello post, I am a massive strategy game junkie. Especially space strategy games. Looking forward to some gameplay details!

I don't know if I'm correct or not from my mere 45 minutes of playing, but I believe space combat is in real time, while everything else is turn base. I haven't experienced space combat yet, but I can't wait!

The combat is in real time. But you don't do anything while the real time. It's more a cinematic view of "you win"/"you lose" (but more complex than that).

Not entirely True. You can Choose up to 3 Battle actions which can make a Big difference in a Fight

Ahh. I envisioned something along the lines of a Total War series type battle, but it's more a roll of the dice type deal... but more complex then that. I got ya, alright cool.

You chose options before battle, then you watch what's happening (and cross fingers that your plan was more clever than those of your opponent)

Yup, whereas the main decisions are already taken beforehand.... namely the build up of your techs influences the design of your ships and hence the battles. Truly strategic, which I like for a 4x. Even though tactical battles can be fun, they aren't in the core of the selling points for a 4X, imho.

Honestly, this is what sold it for me - well, one of many things that sold it for me, wahaha! There are a dearth of 'control units' games out there, but very few 4x games of recent years that I can say I've enjoyed. The delicious turn-based strategizing, that's where it is at.

The combat really doesn't matter, no matter what tactic you choose, unless your fleets are neck to neck, it largely doesn't matter. When the mp are equal choosing one that counters another is the only thing that makes a difference... Wish they did the total war approach rather than making it like civ but with a lengthy camera :/

heh just think if those guys from total war made a game like this!!!!! that would be epic. total war style tactical battles and they do have pretty awesome none space based 4x'ish type TBS games.

i do very much like this game and have only had one battle that i lost but that was because it was 2 starting scout ships verses 2 other factions defender ships lol

i had no chance

This combat system could be a 'no buy' card that I will be drawing against the game =/ shame I thought this would be much better than say sins...

I've been enjoying the combat. Even though you're mostly just watching it, you get to choose the cards and the battles are fun to watch. Plus, for me it's something new and interesting, as all the other 4x-type games I've played has had realtime battles. This sort of thing to me actually makes you want to build your ships more sensibly and research.
