Hunting/Killing other Fleets

As it stands now, I can have a fleet stationed on a planet, but when an enemy fleet reaches the planet nothing happens, it continues on its way without a fight, or even the option of a fight.

it would be nice to be able to picket certain systems so that enemy colony ships cannot get past them, just like the pirates do to every lone colony ship i send that reaches a system they occupy.

as it stands now, the only way that works for me is to have killer ships hidden in the hanger of the system, that way, an enemy ship will stop instead of continuing on right away... then putting those ships in a fleet and attacking once the next turn starts.

also, would be nice to be able to intercept fleets heading towards your planet instead of just passing by them like the figurative two ships passing in the night.

awesome game though, so far, very impressed.

I definitely agree. Right now it's possible for the AI to put together 4 or 5 small fleets and fly them past every fleet at your disposal so that they can then proceed to Invade some or your systems that aren't anywhere near their Empire. I find at times that there will be dozens of AI fleets flying through my territory, ignoring my fleets unless they choose to stop and do battle. There's no way to set a proper battle line, there's no way to create a bottleneck. I'm almost leaning towards the fact that all AI simply ignore your empire boundaries and fleets unless they feel like it. I've got dozens of AI fleets traveling all over my space willy nilly. Doesn't matter if I'm at war or not. Some of them I have Cease Fire with, but they just cruise on through. What's the point of Open Borders?

As for interception, I don't think it's a problem. The way I see it is that it's probably impossible to intercept ships that are in FTL/Hyperspace, due to whatever game lore reason you care to think of.

Enemy fleets going through your systems (and vice versa) without a fight were already confirmed as a bug that is being worked on.

Not sure about intercepting but since you can actually move freely through space it should also be possible to intercept at least fleets that do not use travel lanes.

Yea, this makes building "defenses" alot more useless. As the AI can just walk right past them anyway without any further worry.

They should have a "Defend current system" option, which makes it so that whevener an Opponent/Pirate reaches that system, your forces will automatically attack to defend and stop them from going further, that way, you can build defensive "walls" etc. and not having the need of having a small force in everyone of your systems spread around everywhere

Agreed, just lost a game because AI just flew past my defense line and blocked resources waaayy back form the front line. they are quite impossible to hunt down as my fleet arrived at the planet, AI fleet just visited the planet and continued to travel to other planets O_o

Yep, with this bug it makes no sense to play the alpha atm.

Hope it will be fixed soon.

Agree on picket line. I also had a hard time getting my ship to the fringe planets to defend that were occluded by enemy culture. Don't know if that was by design or a bug. One feature I would love that is related, actually quite the opposite is a retreat function for the mandatory battles. There is a few times when waiting for your armada to arrive and one or two frigates get over run, a retreat and re-group would be awesome.

I don't think that's really fair. It makes sense to play the Alpha because the whole point of having an Alpha (and a beta for that matter) is finding issues like these and bringing them to the attention of the developers. Obviously it's not a finished product, so referring to a missing element from an unfinished game as a "bug" really isn't quite accurate.

Even if it's a bug, it could be interesting to have such ships that avoid combat if they want while their turn. And add a module like "tractor beam" that would prevent them from advancing.
