Unique ships

I think a few unique ships per faction or even per galaxy would be really nice , so you can feel atttached to a ship, somethign that would stand up from your usuall fleet, something that you would fear to see on enmy side, something more powerful by far but limited in number.



Something liek maybe a Flagship per side, or maybean ultra elite ship per faction or both...



Or maybe very experienced ships advancing to a new kind of level with a special name and some background history and bonuses...

I think that the ships should look much more different based on your module/ weapons choices. This is purely asthetic however and wouldn't impact the current combat system.

I'd like the oppertunity to rename ships. You could do this in Sins of a Solar Empire, and it was brilliant.

That is also what I wish for. Choices on weapons should alter the model, maybe even add some kind of different mounts.

The main reason for me were the awesome 3D fights, and while I discovered more and more now, these are the moments that still stun me.

Well this is an Alpha. So we can probably expect much more in the near future.



It is true that even if the ships design is pretty cool so far, I would like to have the option to customize my ships appearance. If I build 3 different contemporary designs of corvettes for different support roles, or a missile destroyer and a direct fire destroyer, I would like to be able to recognize them easily.



We are of course very far yet from the Master of Orion series in terms of ship customization options where you could choose from like 5-7 design types for almost each type of ship. We are also far from the very nice (but a bit messy) Galactic Civilization 2 where customization was only limited by your imagination and technical limitations (too much items were making some of the design parts to become invisible). I do not think either that a system like Sword of the Stars, with each design changing look according to the equipment/weapon load-out will work here because it would probably mess up with the game engine and base concept of fights (but that is another debate) and I doubt the investment of redesigning to be fully worth the effort.



If the devs and designers were to consider implementing more options, I bet the good old Master of Orion concept would probably be the easiest, make multiple base 3Ddesigns matching the race design and general concept, eventually skin/color options. But again, this would be quite a challenge since as we can see on the battle interface, shots are fired from very specific areas of the current ships. Meaning that for every design, the shooting patterns would have to be considered as well to match the model.



Regarding Flagships, or carriers (+fighter + bombers) mentioned in another topic or any new type of weaponry, ship class all this would be awesome and cool to have in the future I agree. Now whatever is specific to a race would be cool, any kind of ship type or tech. But fact is, from what I see about the game, Endless space is (at least it's my perception) to be as accessible and simple as possible, while deep enough strategically to interest both casual, new-to-the-genre and veterans of strategy/empire management/4x/space opera games. Somehow, it's going to be a challenge to keep the right balance, even though as a veteran I am quite happy already with the content of this Alpha version that doesn't really taste like an Alpha (in 8 hours of play, I've encountered 2 annoying bugs so far and the gameplay already feels like a release version).

I like that idea!



I would love to see custom names , perhaps like in ABP online , custom clan tags on ships or such . That would make each player , faction ( if possible ) more unique .

Perhaps two or so special ship hulls per race that you can only have one at a time and require plenty of resources to build. Perhaps requiring you to unlock a pretty high tier research from two research trees.
