Hi, just dicovered the game since a few days and I have a question about AI. I'm playing space 4X game since MOO2 and one of the game breaker I've seen in a lot of them is the inability of computer player to challenge you (Distant world, Space empire...). I'd like to know from you early player how is the game doing in this field?

The only oddity I've seen so far from the AI is sending a hero out attached to a scout and then parking it on one of my systems with 3 9+ ship fleets hanging about. I lol'd pretty hard when I attacked that scout and injured their hero.

I've noticed a few odd factors with how the AI behaves after I declare war, but to be honest as the AI is one of the key areas clearly mentioned as still needing work it's understandable.

Most notable odd behaviour (against AI further more advanced in combat technology than me):

I sent a fleet to an enemy system and gave a order to invade/attack the system even though all my ships were ship-to-ship space combat design. The enemies reaction was to send two fleets to the system, then turn them around back where they came from and send a third right behind them who then finally attacked me.

The enemy had a fleet they managed to get right into the core of my empire, and sat them in my core system for a turn or two doing nothing at all. I rushed produced a scout ship and created a fleet with them and a missile frigate I had in hanger. The AIs reaction was to run for it even though a single one of their ships can wipe out 3 or 4 of my more advanced designs.

The AI can't make up their mind how they feel about me, every 5 turns or so they change their feelings toward me. Alternating from suspicious because they apparently think I am weak, to neutral because I've shown I have no interest in war or conflict.

The AI can be a bit bipolar. Not sure about your situation however, the AI once attacked and wiped me out.

In my first game as the United Empire, the Cravers spread like... well... locusts! They had researched and employed laser technology to great effect against my advance fleets. I was able to fight them to a standstill and slowly push them back after a protracted war. Their ships are not particularly great individually, but they can produce a lot of them!

Was the Hisho for my first game and I kid you not another race (the Sippo I believe, the tech guys) were just chilling in the system next to mine. They declared war right away even though I was still figuring out how to research smiley: biggrin

the AI in my game is a bit suicidal...

i've got a 5 ships fleet...

stupid sophon charges head first and get its face exploded by my canons...

i really don't know what he wanted to prove by doing that...

maybe he lost a bet?

That was definitely a lost bet action.

I haven't been able to play much personally, so I cannot say too much about the ai. However, I do have to agree with bipolar ai. And I've had them randomly thought I was suspicious right after meeting them...

The AI seems very happy to engage in trench warfare over your system if their empire influence is being threatened or threatening yours.
