A bigger problem in my opinion is the fact that any ship can launch an invasion. It feels unrealistic and I think it makes warfare a bit too simplistic for my taste. I think there should be some kind of a land invasion module that ships need if they are suppose to be able to invade planets.

I have a question, when you're invading a star system with two fleets, and the ennemy attacks you, which fleet will be attacked first?

I would disagree with hardcore_gamer, having invasion-specific ships leads to less dynamic strategy and builds.

It often seems like a chore in GalCiv2: "Oh I'm crushing their navy, but have to wait to build, move, and invade with invasion ships which always seem to be lagging behind."

Maybe prevent scout-type ships from invading, but anything much more restrictive than that may lead to cumbersome invasion gameplay.

This.^

I was in war with some Cravens and suprise they bring missles and deflectors to a kinetic fights.

So my fleets just do some noise and then explode.

It take time to get some flak ships and heal my commander. Then i arrive in the last moment and save my colonies.

For those complaining that invasions take too long - wait until you are on the receiving end. You'll be glad for the time to bring your fleet in.

It obviously does take into account the power score of the ships. If you research the right techs though, you can build an "invasion"-fleet with a few ships containing heavy artillery. That is indeed faster but pointless, so far, since you cannot jump into the next system with your fighting fleet and block the enemy from reaching your otherwise harmless invasion fleet.

Thanks for the techs, I didn't know it! I'm going to build special ships with only invasion stuff!

A small disappointment there... The first time, I was hoping for a cinematic of my fleet attacking the planet, and shots, fighters, missles and all kind of fireworks coming from the planet... or maybe a battle station in orbit and weapon platforms... But no... all i got is a progress bar... smiley: frown Then I thought, maybe when I am done... a cinematic of the ground battle and I will play more cards... But no again. smiley: frown

Well K.I.S.S. concept striked a bit too hard on my expectations there. How well, maybe it's temporary and "one day" I will see changes in the tech tree and the progress bar will be a loading bar leading to cinematic planetary battles too...

It should be the case. But a confirmation of Chronodrax or SpaceTroll will be better ^^

There's a tech that let's you equip ships with planetary bombardment weapons (presumably useless in space combat). Try that?

Does the invasion speed go faster if your fleet is larger? It seems like I can invade with one ship at the same speed as five, maybe not though

The defender may have system improvements in order to increase its protection. And you can equip your ships with invasion support modules (unlocked in the tech tree).

You need to select your fleet then click on the second icon (next to the colonize icon). You'll see a gauge crushing your enemy gauge each turn.

Once you have started the invasion and if you have sufficient forces in the system, you will begin to see their color bar be replaced with yours under the name of the system. Once you have it all it will become yours. Enemy fleets will stall this effort, thus, you must destroy them.
