Hi there, new member here who wanted to share his thoughts and ideas on the game so far! smiley: smile



And before you read understand that i know this game is in alpha, and that i also very much enjoy what i have seen, so i give good luck to the Devs! smiley: cool



1. Movement: it seems strange that when ships move at the end of a turn and then still have movement points wount alert the player? and could also potencially lose many movment points when auto-moving.



Another thing is that when ships arrive at their intendid destination, you are not allerted.



Also, ships sem to have a good ablity to bypass each other....this makes it really hard to defend.



Intersepting fleets would be a good thing.



Turing on lanes? I would approve.



2. AI turns: is it just me or do the ai occasionally move again during your turns, like when once i went to move a fleet to attack a blockading enemy ship, when they go there the other ship left before i could hit the attack button (Shouldent ships auto engadge?). It does seem really wierd.



3. Warp drive: While the idea of the warp drive is good, i think its a little to difficualt to balance to be fun in-game. Instead i prepose that there should be more wormholes, and also make the technology to traverse them avaliable alot later.



4. Ship designing: When making diffrent ship classes, i think i would be cool if the modules you attach change what the ship looks like (For instance, missile ships get missile racks and lauchers attached to the hull where as repair and higher engine ships get repair equipment and bigger thrusters.



While the cost can be high, i feel as if upgrading ships is too easy. Maby it should disable ships for a few turns with little to no HP to encourage the use of older ships for longer.



5. Alerts: i think you can guess. Basicly stop me from forgetting to do stuff.



6. Combat: Exstatic over the consept with this, smiley: wink.



Pre-combat: The ablity to set goals for your fleet would be awesome, like attack longrange ships first and stuff, also to set up formations for more aggressive attacking or to shield your civlian ships for damage. It would also be awesome if a fleets speed decided who gets the inishitive with the warp in and therefore prehaps a tactical advantage depending on whats in the system.



UI: Stats on ships, their HP their perferd combat zone, and a hole bunch of stuff!



Weapons: I feel there could be more veriaty with these inorder to really play into the three rounds (Like Crippleing and buring attacks), Instead of weapons being able to only fire a number of times per round, they should have an overall fire rate so that things like missiles are fired only one or twice per combat, but the guns are almost of full automatic.



Defences: This is the reason i don't play GalCiv any more, instead i propose that the diffrent defences do diffrent effects that still contrubute to the defence of the ship (Like Armor tech gikes damage reduction %, and flak reduces weapons accuracy, and more of thouse sorts of things), that way you cant be curbstomped because you dident invest in shields when you enemy got lasers.



Cards: More viraty please!



After combat report: more data! and maby a way to view known enemy ship designs so you know what your fighting!



Trade: National trade would be cool, even if its only like civ type games. But a Sword of the stars way would also give the pirates more to do!



Heros: They seem a little too powerful, but thats a balanceing issue.

Additional mission types would also be cool, like dropping off spys, and harrasing enemy production.



As a wierd complaint, systems you are invading should not be able to lauch ships without a frendly fleet present, it seems wierd that an opponent can build a large fleet and launch it while my fleet is attacking.....maby as a structure you could have stealth shipyards. smiley: biggrin

1) yep, there i room for improvement, especially interception. As I read forums it seems it´s WIP

2) generally it should be simultaineous with you, so they should move with you at same time. So far I think there is some chaos, but I haven´t seen ony ship moving twice a turn

3) I think it´s very interesting idea, but I would restrict it to ships with warp drive as some module... About wormhole, some tweaking in galaxy generator would be nicesmiley: smile

4) visuals for ships would be nice, don´t know it´s priority right now. As for upgrading, I think price in dust is high enough, I would rather see way to retrofit them in hangar at planets for some construction points (something like 10% of ship cost+difference between cost of new and old design?)

5) yep

6) I am bit sleepy already, so I haven´t read this whole part-but I think there could be somethink like play with theese if you want, if you don´t you don´t have to-for example, setting formation-you will have some formations which give bonuses and maluses and then you will have one, which will grant nothing and negate all bonuses/maluses for enemy fleet (generaly disabling feature).

weapons-3 categories seem good in my opinion, its possible to have protection agains all, or make specialized ships. Make more categories, and it would be impossible to defend against them... same for defences...



Generally I like having superpowered ships in fro example SotS (liir cruisers with phasers and mk4 shields), which are impossible to destroy, but well, in MP it sucks... Thats reason I don´t play SotS mutli, as playing anything else then liir or morigi is sure way to hell. System in galciv or here gives "weaker" empires chance to fight back...

Really? from my experiance it works the other way around? but i dunno...

Heh-I usually play bigger galaxies theresmiley: smile that might be issue-warlike factions are good/better on smaller maps... Against computer I love playing zuul, but well, against human players I get beaten up...

Well you can do that.

Either in battle through one specific action

Or in the design options of your ships (you have repair modules)

Or by being in a friendly system

Or by having an admiral good with his hands, a wrench and duct tape.

Im almost sure he meant something like repair stations, repair ships... figures. Albeit i didnt notice that you can add repair modules to your ships. We need a lot more modules.
