I love the idea of having warp drive interdiction technology to have a potential arms race between those wanting to get into a system. It would once again allow a "front-line" that's not so easy to bypass, almost like building next to mountains in a civ game. Which makes me think it would be cool as well to have some sort of "galactic terrain", areas of space that are slower to move through or confer different combat modifiers or scanning limitations.

I would be...ok with the idea.

Have you guys actually used warp drives yet? Ships move significantly slower with them. I had them late into a game a while ago, and my ships mostly stuck to space lanes cause they were much faster. A race with good sensors could probably see your ships coming in time to move defense to their destination, thus killing them on arrival. Of course they might also not, thus the useful of the tech. :]

Warp dives still mean you can get to an oppenents worlds without a problem, and usally by the time you see them, its alrady too late for fleets to return (If they are not already in transit to somwhere else), it more or less elimonates the geography of the map.

Interesting thought. I'm not sure how I feel about warp drives, but I do enjoy being able to make someone go through your fleets before they can get to your planets.

If warp drive has to be in the game I think it should be a very late game tech.

I agree with this.

Maybe have a tech that shows incoming ships with red lines when they are heading towards one of your planets with warp drives. Long range scanning or something. This would at least give you some warning. Or taking something rom EVE, have warp interdiction technology that you can place in systems to prevent warping in to them..

Does anybody else find that warp drives compleatly invalidate the idea of terrotory when you can potencially travvel directly to an opponents homeworld before your opponent realises and sends their fleets to attempt to intersept.

Frankly i dislike the entire idea of them.

Instead i think we should have more wormholes, and make the technology to use them harder to ger or use (Like requiring a ship in fleets to allows travel)

No I disagree. If you have the technology nothing can stop your expansion if that means invading and ytaking over the opponents homeworld or empire. Did it stop the British/French/Portugese in Conquering half the world a decade ago.

Agreed to a point, but gameplay-wise having the technology early is just really annoying and spoils enjoyment.

Maybe the tech should be available a lot later, and have associated penalties, like needing to spend a turn 'recovering' after arrival, or taking an hp hit due to unorthodox travel method?

Bypassing the frount lines in most 4x games requires that you survive the first combat round before you can exscape, if your fleets cant do that, then be fortuniate that that the advantage is being used defencively instead of offencively.

It can be annoying that you work hard to create a chokepoint or any kind of front-line only for it to become more-less useless once this tech is available so i agree in that sense. Unfortunately i think it would require the galaxy generation to be tweaked a bit for this to change though since sometimes constellations can be seperated from each other completely.

Plus i think a lot of people would hate to lose the ability to bypass a chokepoint or front line because of how convenient it is. Ultimately i do agree though that i woulds prefer to be able to actually create a boarder and have it mean something even in late game.

They still couldent conquer eachother capital by sailing to it, all they did was fight over new territory, like you already do in the colonisation phase.

I kind of agree, I like the universe having natrual chokepoints but after the earlygame is over most races can just go were they want... I think it takes some fun away.

Warpdrives should come online lategame at the very earliest.

I agree that warp drives kinda ruin the whole territory and linked systems.

Either remove it, make it optional or harder to research. Thats my take on it.
