Weapons of choice

Kinetics (I like to shoot them full of holes)
Beams (Warm up the phasers)
Missiles (Nothing like hitting them hard and from far away)
Mix of all (Jack of all trades)
Based on the enemies (I use their weakness against them)
I don't have an opinnion

Lately I've been trying to load up my smaller ships with missiles. My mediums with beams, and my biggest with a combination of all. My thinking is that the smallest ships have the greatest chance of being blown up quickly, so giving them them heavy hitting missiles that are most effective in the first round is the best way to make use of them.

Unless they have uber shields (unlikely), lasers beat missiles any day. You can destroy about half the enemy fleet with your lasers before they get a chance to launch the missiles, which gives you a huge advantage for the rest of combat.

I generally try to maul my opponents with lasers at long range, and have a small complement of missiles on each ship just in case they somehow get nice shields. Kinetics are pretty worthless because I always win at long-mid range, where lasers reign supreme.

on an off topic, I'm surprised that people are having 15k-30k fleets. I usually win by turn 100-150, and the highest I can get before winning is 7k. What do the high-level weapons look like? I generally get to the blue-purple laser (the one right before the tech with exploding planets) and then the game ends smiley: stickouttongue

I generally go heavy on beam weapons. My reasoning is, that those babies allow you to blow your enemy out of space before they even got a chance to launch those pesky missiles at you.

Personally I am a fan of Kinetic weapons. By the mid game it is tough to get into Kinetics optimal range in battle, and I am not certain on Kinetics long term reliability. I will have to play around with the other weapon types more for a valid comparison.

I use a balance of all three types of weapons. Works for me. Missiles though...they are something special. smiley: smile

Small ships filled evenly with all 3 weapons only, pump them out fast and in large enough numbers. and you can win by mid-game.

My understanding was that missiles are best during the long range phase, energy weapons during the mid, and kinetic weapons during the short. And so I've been outfitting my larger ships with a balance of every weapon type. It's been working out rather well so far.

I tend to load my ships with nothing but missiles till Battleships are available, then run a combination. With no defenses of any kind on my ships, I usually end up in M.A.D. situation. I one shot their fleet, but lose all my ships before the missiles hit. However, I'll trade 7 cheap frigates to down 3 cruisers any day. Downside is, I end up blowing all my Dust on healing my Fleet Commanders to keep their insane double damage bonus. Not sure if the strategy would work if I wasn't doing that.

So, what types of weapons do you research and prefer to use?

I usually go for beam weapons and research a few early kinetic weapons that I use until I get some good beams. This is mainly because I have usually seen far more kinetic deflectors than beam shields. Missiles seem good but they seem to take some time to hit and damage the enemy. Anyway, I usually decide based on what the most powerful enemies use and try to counter it.

What do you use?

It's why flak/lasers were invented, shoot them rocks out the sky :P

I use kinetics, don't know why, it usually ends up in me doing roughly 0 damage to an enemy fleet :/ Although i did mix up the defence types, with a mixture of all 3, so at least i might be able to withstand more pain.

A mix of all 3 is best, since the enemy usually only takes one defense for some reason.

My main fleet sits around 30k power, with my secondary defense fleet around 23k. I can churn out 6 small fodder ships in one turn, or buy 1 a turn for an infinite amount of time, or about 30 in one go right now. And it takes 4 turns to produce my "Wraith" battleships, which by themselves can take on 10 or so enemies.

(I have a video uploading showing the massive amounts of carnage these things can produce.)

I don't use dust, It takes me 1 turn to build one ship in my best star system (which has almost 1000 industry production), and i have 3 other star systems producting at least 400 industry.

But i'm unlocking new equipments (+20% and +25% tonnage!) and I think my power will has almost 20k points!

Remind me never to wage war against you. (I can't even begin to imagine how much dust it would cost to instantly build a fleet of those. I had some dreadnoughts costing 12k dust but building 15k power fleet.. eep)

I have three kinds of ships in my fleets:

- 2 Long range ships, with more missiles and Beams (8 capacity fleet)

-3 Medium range ships , with more beam and a few kineticks and missiles (12 capactity fleet)

-1 ship to take dammages, with heavy protections (shields, etc...) (2 capacity fleet)

Total power: 15.232 points.

I use a bit of a mix up,since I am forgetful of the weaknesseses of the enemy.
