I am impressed with this game. This is my first time posting on these forums so please forgive me, this post will be disjointed and jumping around from request to request. I have played all the Civ games, Gal Civ2, Distant Worlds, and almost bought SoTsII (changed my mind on launch day). I found that old feeling of losing time while playing Endless Space, quite fun! Do we have a manual that describes what the techs do? I am learning through play and while fun I find I have nothing I can do diplomatically. I can only offer War or (now) Peace. How do we trade goods or tech (if at all)? What do I need?

Also I thought that I had a good force of ships along come the Cravers and Blast two fleets right outta the 'space'..I was the one who declared on them to see what the results were. I have Cruisers but have not done much up the 'military' tech tree. Is that where ship power is? I am wondering what I need to get a good fleet going, weapons/shield tech or class size of ships?

How can I 'hold' more ships in my fleets? I have noticed that Heroes are invaluable but I would like to assign more cruisers rather than the smaller ships to them.

What does the 'Scientific' arm of our Tree do? I have gone down it a bit but not really got alot of use out of it.

I am about 178 turns into a game as the Sophons and I really like the way they play. I really enjoy the 'tactics cards' that you can choose during a manual controlled battle!

So many questions, perhaps you good people of the forums can direct me to some threads or posts where I can start?

Thanks for putting up with my ramblings and such. I think I will be here for a while. I sat down to play at 3pm Pacific yesterday (Sunday) and my wife came to me and said you need to put our daughter to bed..(gah! 930pm already????)

Hello there!Glad you are having fun. This is still an Alpha,so features like trading technologies and goods will probably be implemented later. The Military tree improves your weapons, support, defense. But you can unlock other types of ships(like dreadnoughts) via the lower tree(which is financial,I think.don't take it to heart though). You can hold more ships in a fleet through researching upgrades, which one though I don't know, still a newbie myself.

The scientific tree allows you to do quite a few things, like using certain luxury or strategic resources your planet may have. You'll discover its uses, and believe me,you won't be dissappointed.

I do hope I helped a bit, although by the time I am finishing this someone else will probably have answered.Anyway,it's nice to have another guy here.

Yes thanks much! I went up a few threads and found info like Command Points which I realized determines the amount of ships I can hold, now I just need to find which techs increase that.

You unlock more diplomatic options through research on the left tech tree. You can trade tech and resources and even systems to each other.

Also I thought that I had a good force of ships along come the Cravers and Blast two fleets right outta the 'space'..I was the one who declared on them to see what the results were. It's a good idea to work your way into the left tech tree because you can get more command points there which let you form bigger fleets. It's important to take note of what enemy ships are using weapon and defence wise.

Deflectors protect against kinetics

Shield protect against beams

Flak protects against missiles

The a.i tends to specialise and so building your ships to counter what they have is important.

It's a good tech tree to go down because it unlocks resources for you to use and good improvements to build and even some battle cards are in there. I suggest zooming in and hovering over everything to see the bonuses and such.
