I just got this game today and i'm loving it.



I do have a question, is there any way to have diplomatic relations with pirates such as paying them off or even defending them against another force? What are peoples thoughts on this and would it even be an idea to have different factions or pirates?

The only diplomatic relation you can have with pirates is to beat the heck out of them,so far.

I would like this to go the SIns route with pirates. As is they seem like Civ barbarians without the fun of getting to steal their cities or money. I just turn them off because unless you're training admirals, they have literally noooo purpose other than to bug you.

No, you cannot interact with them on any diplomatic level. I assume that in this game they aren't an united faction (Like in Sins of a solar empire), they're simply like barbarians in Civ5, however, here they randomly roam the space and loot.

It could be an interesting idea though. Perhaps rather than having diplomatic options maybe a tech option for a future race that increases pirate spawning in opposition space or something.
