So I rolled over this while I was skimming for my next strategy game fix. I want this game, but, its been ages since I preordered a game, is it worth it? What are the 8 races? What makes it ground breaking? I can only find snippets, I need a concrete idea of what the game is like. 25 dollars isn't anything to me, but I've been burned before.

To most of your questions, we don't know. Only five of the races have been revealed. I will tell you this though, it is a good game already, and its only in alpha. I can tell you this though, I am alreayd extremely impressed with the amount of polish and features already ingame. I can only imagine what else they are going to add(I heard a rumor that there is going to be a feature that allows you to make your own race which I am exctied about). The only thing I would caution you about is that this is more like Civilization than Sins of a Solar Empire. Overall, I like it. If you aren't sure, than I would wait a little and find out more.

For some reason, Endless Space has very little publicity. :/ I really have no idea why! Let me give you the breakdown:

- eXplore! From your home planet in your home system, learn about vibrant new worlds, invent the technology to study them, colonize them, modify them, and eventually terraform them into the ideal colonies of your expanding domain!

- eXamine! Alien lifeforms abound; the Despotic Kleptocracy of the United Empire, children of Terra! The Cravers, hunter-gatherer seekers of the intergalactic currency known as Dust and resident locust-like insectoids! The Hissho, Pterodactyl avian samurai ace pilots! The Sophon; if Al-Andalus had colonized the stars and was composed entirely of aliens, these would be them! And finally... Horatio. An empire of clones of... Horatio. Almost certainly the best, or at least the most Horatio civ!

- eXhume new technologies! The tech matrix is very in-depth, and each choice you make might dovetail well with other choices you make... or you might just rush towards railguns and see how your enemies like that. smiley: wink

- eXtirpate! Meet fascinating new life... AND ANNIHILATE THEM! Or form trade agreements, alliances etc etc! Note that this last bit is significantly more difficult at the moment, as the AI either hates you for being too weak, or fears you for being too strong. Nothing the gentle coercion of fusion torpedoes can't cure!

Huh. Think I might've messed the traditional 4 x's up. Ah, well. The game is buckets of fun, even in an Alpha - I'd go so far as to say the Alpha feels more polished than most games I've played the beta of, or even the release-candidate. There are quite a few things that warrant more attention, although the community seems divided on what, exactly, those are. Luckily, said community is friendly and seems to be full of cool people who can agree to disagree, so consider that a periphery benefit! smiley: biggrin The developer team takes player feedback quite seriously, so if you bring it up, it'll probably be addressed one way or another. I can wrangle up a list of things that are added to the changelog, if you'd like? But basically... If you've ever wanted to watch a civilization expand beyond the stars, explore a rich and detailed world with beautiful music and artistic battles, and read interesting technology and lore descriptions, then I can't recommend Endless Space enough. My computer is... Five years old, perhaps six? And a laptop. And it seems to run the game pretty well. But to be safe, why don't you throw the specs my way - and afterwards, maybe you'll pick up the demo and jooooin usssss! smiley: smile
