Hi,

I have some questions on a few system improvements which don't make sense to me:

  • Permanet Perenial: +1 food surplus benefit...: What does this mean? AFAIK food surplus is wasted...
  • Dark science institue: 50% surplus production converted to science: Should not this be food surplus?? (production can already be converted to science nearly from the start
  • Redundante infrasturcture: This give empire benefit, Is it cumulable? if I have 5 such improvement and fervent approval, I get a 10% benefit in science empire wide?

thanks in advance!

1) Food surplus is actually related to your population growth rate. The more the better.

2) Seems to me that half of your production rate is added to your science, then you can convert industry to science on top of that, making 75% in total. Doesn't seem to work so far, though.

3) Seems so, exactly.

"Food surplus is actually related to your population growth rate. The more the better." => Yes but at the stage of the technology (mid to late game), I expect to have most system fully populated, I don't see the advantage of this technology?

Most 4x's have a mechanic like this. The idea is that any fresh colony in late game could become usefully populous in a short enough time to be useful to you. The Hospital in Civ is an example of this. Bee-lining for pop growth could be a viable strategy depending on the game length and size.

Yes I can see it, however what does +1 food surplus benefit means?? Population grow is already quite fast I think. another problem is that in order to build expensive improvement you must already have a big enough population.

There are a lot of techs in the bottom tree that give you several stacking population cap boosts on systems

+2 on tiny

+1 on small

+1 on moons

+1 on all planets

+1 on gas

+1 on asteroid

+2 on all planets

Having a major food surplus would greatly help if you had the surplus construction created before you increased your population caps like that

You can also use it to jump-start if you just buy it outright with dust

Also there is a tech to the far right of the techtree, converting your complete food surplus into industry.

Sadly, it just sets your food surplus to zero without any industrial improvement for now, but it is the nicest possible finishing touch on a completely developed system, in my opinion.
