Speed of the game

Is just me or the slow speed is a little fast? I like long games. In civ for example, i only play the marathon speed. In galciv, very slow research. I like several battles for a system, takes and retakes of systems, tatical moves, recon and for that we can't have all or nothing fights with dozens of capital ships destroyed. Science seems to fly by, economy have a tremendous boom after 100 turns because of the +10 systems colonized and developed, and all seems like a counter-clock, build a massive army and send to next star. I know that multiplayer need fast games, but when fighting solo games, i think the game could be more interesting if it would be slowed down. Anyone agrees on this one?

I personally never cared for Marathon mode in Civilization, but have known a few people who are and am curious as to why. I can see some of the draw since you can get out of the early ages of Civilization rather quickly, but when it takes just as long to build something it seems as the game is just being artificially lengthened.

I think the problem is when do you start croping the amount of FIDS a turn people get without it becoming an endless wait for somthing to happen.

I'm addicted to Marathon mode in Civilization. There are two reasons. First off, the insane slowness of units in Civ. Marathon mode effectively increases the speed of every unit several-fold by rescaling the course of events relative to units. Secondly, the increased feedback I get about the effectiveness of my construction optimizations. A sufficiently optimized city in Civ can produce a building in one turn. If you do that in Quick mode, it doesn't mean much. If you do that in Marathon mode, it's gobsmacking levels of optimization. Thus, extremely optimized cities are effectively able to get more done in Marathon mode than in Quick mode.

You can change the game speed in advance settings, configuring a party, I don't know if you've already did that?

+1

Even in slow mode, things come to fast for me. Too fast colonization, too fast research, too fast encounters, etc..

It would be nice to have slower modes implemented. smiley: smile

I agree, my guess is that they're trying to already from the start optimize it for multi-player use.

I think the opposite, it's too slow for me, I'd like to play in a huuuuge galaxy but having a fleet very quickly and begin to fight with others!

When i research i like to see something "real" happening in battlefield. I like to see that research field in "action" and get a tech edge above the others, at least for, 10/15 turns.... and 1/2 turns by research, it turns almost impossible to even know what to do with it. Refit, refit, refit... Galciv and civ are good examples of speed balance. For those who like play a game in a couple of hours the quick games give that. For those who like a more strategical/tactical game, and a little less "arcade" (no offense mean) have the marathon and very slow modes. Is not for everyone, spend days with the same game, but even the actual slow speed the game feels almost artificial. In +100 turns / 150 turns i have a breakthrough once a turn. I know the game is too unbalanced, but unless they cut the incomes, i feel the game must have another setting like marathon. A tech should have a meaning, not only at start, and when i choose one field, i must know that for several turns i will pay that price...

Agree. We really need a Marathon speedmode. Research should take much longer, so should most Improvments and colonisation.

Well, I believe the game is intended to be paced for multiplayer (so games can be finished in a couple of hours, just in one evening). I am also curious to see if Amplitude is going to find a good way to make multiplayer work not only for the close friends (with whom you can more or less easily organize schedules to play, and random multiplayer games where your opponent may suddenly say "i have to go, sorry"). I think this will be a big challenge.

Now a slow mode would definitely be great for people who like long solo matches.
