How to intercept enemy fleets? [Newb here]

Greetings,

Currently playing around with the game, haven't gotten very far, but already encountered a problem that annoys me to no end. How do I intercept ships? It doesn't appear that I can attack ships "in transit", however the enemy REFUSES to stand still and appears to take their movement turns on my turn, meaning I can't really react to it. Furthermore I see no option for "barricading" or "lying in ambush" in a system. Basically I cannot attack an enemy unless he ends his movement in a system that I can reach, even if I have superior maneuverability (playing Sophons early on).

A nitpick I have is that the game doesn't warn me if I try to end my turn without doing obvious but vital stuff like putting something in the research queue or having systems idling. Not that important for my 2-system empire, but still somewhat annoying when I click and immediately think "uh-oh, I forgot something!".

I've noticed this too, hopefully this is something that gets addressed! Ships breezing past my system blockades and ships untouchable in transit are two of my few complaints with this game.

That's bugged behavior. It'll be fixed soon. They're not supposed to blow past your lines like that. They're also not supposed to get moves on your turn, I think.

Turns are simultaneous, so yes they should be able to move same time as you.

I do hope that can be toggled off, then. Having to out-twitch an AI in order to swat flies (hostile scout vessels that will float around blockading random systems) is annoying. AIs react just a little faster than us mere mortals.

that problem will probably be eased when the intercept bug is fixed in the next build.

Ah, jolly, didn't know it was a bug smiley: smile that's good to hear. What is the word on the intended behavior?

I also seem to not get attacked myself, which kinda bugged me out seeing as I upgraded my hero to full defense (sophon still, getting blockaded early on). This means that if I wanted to evict the blockadée(?) I had to do the attacking part, which kinda nullified my bonus.

Anyway, probably going to make a new game and play it fast and furious with a warrior race, given the current mechanics.

Actually, defence stat bonuses boost deflection, absorption, and interception. They don't give you a flat bonus to defending against attack, they boost the defensive systems of your ships. I mean, there's no such thing as defensive terrain in space, so a bonus when you're on the defensive doesn't make much sense. Momentum's relative in space anyway.

So feel free to attack the hell out of invading aliens. That is, assuming your ships can survive the engagement.

Ah! Wonderful news. The theme I was playing on was huge hitpoints, repair systems, defense, etc. Good to know it was simply a question of defense stats in terms of deflections etc :>

Knowing this I might do it again on my second run.
