AI Asks: What are Cards?

Is it just me, or does the AI have no flippin' idea what cards to deploy in combat? I have them deploying Kinetic boosting cards without any kinetic damage ships. They deploy the heal ability at the beginning of fresh combat. They deploy Adaptive Strategy when their problem is my fleet is tearing them a new one. The only time they seem to make any sense is when there's just the three starting options.

Not to say defensive cards seem don't Op. There's no counter to them until very late techs. Enemy loves them some beams and missiles, So I just spam camo and defensive shielding. I just need to gauge the enemies weapons and just deploy the right defenses.

Yes, i think they randlomy pick up a card^^ But sometimes they choose the good ones, like beam power improvment in middle phase!

I've also seen in some very rare cases where the AI doesn't even pick any cards at all.

Happens to me all the time. TBH this sort of balances their ability to pull 4 billion ships from their crack.

I don't think it's entirely random but I don't have any data to back me up. It seems the AI is more likely to use engineering when they start a battle injured or half way through.

I would say that 4 out of 10 their card choices are making sense to me in someway. It also can be my picks which make them to look okay. Never have encountered an AI that doesn't pick anything though : p
