I quit early if my start pos is absolutely abysmal. I once ended up in a constellation filled with barren, lava and gas giant worlds with a few artic and desert planets thrown in. Otherwise I only quit early when a game starts to get tedious.

Most of the time I'll keep playing regardless of whether it'll end in victory or defeat.

Sometimes I'll create some goal that I think is important and quit just because I didn't accomplish it, though those games are in the minority

I quit early to keep things interesting, by end game your ships beat any template the AI uses; it just turns into a grind of your uberships vs. 20billion magically made AI fleets.

quit early when it's clear I've won

but I keep playing if it seems there will be a challenge or that I might even loose.. thats when it gets interesting.

and I restart when the game hates me and I have a one planet starting region again (1 planet in the starting system and no other system reachable in 2 turns with my colonyship)

I only picked up the game a few days ago and I'm still getting into the swing of things, so I have been quitting early when I'm getting rolled hard ><

But sometimes the AI will do weird stuff, like once it just randomly offered me peace even though that turn it just took out my main fleet XD

If I'm versus AI players I'll continue as I just want to play. Versus human players, and if it's clear that I'm at a loss, then I'll ask for a defeat, because continuing would mean that I'm waiting them to do some bad mistake (and that wouldn't be honorable.)

I started playing like that when I started paying go. It's a bad thing to continue playing when you have clearly lost, just waiting some bad mistake from your opponent.

I tend to keep playing, even if victory isn't an option. But if the AI keep spawn fleets by the hundreds, of course I quit early.

I have a very small amount of patience if I know I'm going to lose. I'm the same in all strategy games, if I know I'm going to lose, I'd rather just start a new game and try a new strategy.

Quit? Nah, I'll just listen to the sounds of your extinction.

Given it's still an alpha it depends a lot on what I'm trying to achieve. I quit nearly the first 5 games early since I had to get used to the game and to fins all important management spots. After that I only quit early when I'm fed up (to boring or whatever). Didn't found myself in the situation to lose, have yet to experience that, since I already won 2 games and am able to win normal with ease I gotta try a higher difficulty soon.

If I would play with other humans (never really did that before in another 4X) I would probably let the decision to others, fine with stopping upon a clear result, but also fine with trying to keep going.

I keep playing unless the odds are really, really bad as I am not l33t like so many people in here and I actually lose by being in an eternal war with a craver faction

I normally keep playing. If I know it'll just be a mop up, I get this idea in my head to leave splinters behind to watch out and be sentry like. Which drives me to hunt and murder them all. But that's just me.

I haven't really ran into any situations in which I wanted to quit because I was losing. I have quit early because it was too easy or too tedious and boring.

Hah, yeah usually the only reason I'll quit is if it's clear that I'm going to win and will have to spend the rest of my time mopping up. I got a 10k fleet by turn 70 as Craver yesterday. ^^

I quit when I know I'm going to win and know the rest of the game will be boring cleanup. I fight to the bitter end if losing.

I quit early if defeat is clear. I may or may not quit early if I'm winning. It depends on whether the win looks like it'll be interesting or not. I tend to quit out of conquest victories, but play through on scientific ones. I find military mop-ups to be irritating, especially with the current bugs on AI movement.

I usually encounter a nasty bug that forces me to quit early. I've yet to actually finish a game... but I'd like to.

If you pretty much know that you're not going to win do you just start over or continue and keep playing to see how it'll play out?

I personally keep playing just to see what I can do to not end up dead last.

I keep playing to destroy everyone but my own people, if the AI was smart they would stay allies but they get jealous and decalre war so they die.

What makes me laugh is when you are destroying an AI race system by system and locking them down rather swiftly... try offering a cease fire, mine get rejected because;

'They are not war weary' and something like 'You position in the war is not positive' which is hilarious as I'll have them down to like 3 systems.

Lately though I've been pushing out early and securing a rather vast empire. I'll have my economy explode and build a massive fleet... then for fun I'll pull the fleet all the way back to my core systems and let the AI slowly take my Empire, then when I get bored I'll throw my armada at them and usually take them back to their starting system.

I enjoy setting up in a 4X game. It's a relatively lean state for my economy and I can understand that my choices on how I expand and develop have clear and decisive impacts. Later on I become increasingly disengaged by the increasing micro-management required to keep the empire running efficiently. As a result I usually restart if it becomes clear I'm doing fairly badly, I decide to start again and try to fix what I was doing wrong. I guess I learn the game bottom up as a result.

I have a little trouble sometimes, but in extremely rare occassions where the resources around me allow for a slow start and usually quit if I get left behind by the competition. I dont like to quit so I use drastic tactics to keep the down before the obliterate my starved economy. On good games, I do like to mop up because it feels so satisfying to finally take down an enemy empire.

My feelings exactly, I love taking them down, they caused me so much hassle and pain destroying my ships and harassing my Empire I want to see them get wiped out. I dislike it when I take out the second last planet then some other AI comes along and takes out their last smiley: frown Happened last night I simple got a message saying someone was destroyed! They stole my glory!

In most 4x games I wouldn't care to quite early or start a new game. But so far with Endless I've yet to quite out of a game even if I'm losing, you never know when the AI might turn on each other and you get that tech breakthrough that puts you back on solid ground to secure a better finishing spot.
