[Bug or Intentional?] Fleets stuck in system if enemy fleet is there?

Just wondering if this occurrence is intentional, or a bug with the release version.

What happened is this:

I attacked a player (green) whose system does not have influence around it, and whom I'm not at war with.

Irritatingly, he had around 8(!) fleets of 7 points there - none of which tried to attack my single fleet of 15 points (in terms of strength, it would be around 6000 points vs 1800 for each of his individual fleets).

However, while this occurred, another player (cravers), hit one of my rear systems. To my shock, I found myself unable to move my fleet to deal with the threat. And since each fleet can only attack once it'll take me 8 turns to free up this fleet.

Yea, this happens alot to me.

It can also happen if you're not at war with that player. I've had ships go to an unexplored system which turned out to be owned by another faction. Said faction had ships in the system, I was not at war with them, and they didn't want to attack me.

I could not move my ships, so they were stuck there unless I declared war on that faction and killed all their ships/retreated.

The system definitely needs some adjustments then.

My suggestion would be as follows:

1. If your 'military power' is higher than any individual fleet of your opponent's, they should not be able to stop you from leaving the system.

This way, scouts can still be stopped from moving, but not large military fleets.

2. Also, a fleet should be able to attack more than once per turn.

One attack per turn is just plain silliness. In fact, I have a sneaking suspicion that using multiple small fleets (of say 1-2 ships) can infinitely delay an enemy from invading your planets properly...

You can't delay forever because you will lose material faster than the enemy. However, you can easily prolong the game by days, weeks, or longer of real-time; a late-game system can produce hundreds (!) of delaying ships per turn. Even if you fight for real, the number of fleets in late game is massive. I support multiple attacks per turn for this reason.

It is an unfortunate broken aspect of the game. The game allows you to go into an unexplored territory, but once explored, it belongs to someone else, you can't go out the same way to go back in, especially if they use the prevent fleet from moving out option. They should allow you to buy passage...say 5 dust for ships with out weapons or rating less then 10 and more $$$ for military ships.

It's the "blockade system" ability that all fleets have. When this is enabled non open border players cannot leave the system you are blockading. It still needs a bit of work in my opinion but the mechanic is sound enough - just needs getting used to smiley: smile
