Hi,

I'm just engaged in a game (150 turns : just learning smiley: smile), and it happens that I cannot move into the enemy empire anymore.

I mean, of course, I already have obtained the possibility to use those kind of "smoky" roads that appear aside of the classic and early ones.

But now, I can't use roads that I have taken before anymore, since the empire has settled on the connected stars. So, what can I do ?

declare war on them, then you can move no problem... check the diplomacy screen

Possible you need to push left shift not sure why that works but occasionally it does.

The other possibility is your trying to move into their territory and are either not at war or do not have an open borders treaty.

"Smoky" roads, I believe you are referring to the wormhole connected stars. If you could moved along those before (and by now you may also have warp drive, which enables you to forgo on most links anyway and fly directly between two stars), and can't now because the other empire has spread its influence into that area, you got two options: 1) declare war and attack or 2) work the diplomacy angle and get the "open borders" treaty, and you should be able to travel their space without restrictions.

Ok, I understand the tips. Anyway, why are enemy scoot ships able to come to your stars (especially at the beginning of the game) without any treaty or war situation ? And, second point, why are you able to explore foreign stars, which reveal themselves to be already occupied only when you arrive on site, whereas you won't be able to return there later ? Will be because, once you know it's already occupied, you "know" you cannot go there, and therefore your ships are kinda "stuck" when you give them the order to do so ?

It is all about "influence"; the colored sphere that extends from your colonies. An example; you colonize a system, and it is considered an outpost. Everyone can fly through there, since there is no influence to stop them from entering that area. Once the influence has been established (IIRC 30 turns later an outpost becomes a colony and generates a sphere of faction color around itself, which is its influence).

Now sometimes you will find yourself in a space that becomes a part of someones "influence" within a turn and you suddenly can't leave; you are stuck until you either declare war or obtain "open borders" treaty. It can often happen that your ships get stuck in enemy territory after breaking the open borders treaty. I had a friendly fleet from my neighbor in one game, but wanted to prevent them from expanding into my backyard (I held a choke-point star in a spiral galaxy) and I broke off the open borders treaty with them; their fleet was stuck there until we eventually went to war with each other.

Hope that helps.

StrategyPrime covered this but his response needs the following two notes in preface to what he said...

To be exact, when you first start the game you are in "Cold War" status. In that mode, you are allowed to move through any space with another race of similar status.

If you go into "Peace" you basically have locked yourself out of their borders. You each have agreed not to attack each others non-influence systems, nor kill scouts (or other ships). From what you are describing in our original post you likely found the new colony, they asked you to declare peace, you did... and now you can not go beyond their borders.

Now put in StrategyPrime's response here... and you have a good picture of what you need to do next. (Hint: Declare War or Beg for Open Borders)

There have been so many threads about this. I may even have added one. I hesitate to open another, so am hijacking this one as the content is related. If only the devs provided feedback none of this would be necessary.

The Hissho declared war, their two closest systems including their home world are in Horatio's zone of influence... "how conveeenient". I don't have Open Borders with Horatio so the Hissho worlds are protected... that is what I consider a bug.

Zones of control/influence are really buggy. I can't navigate directly to known Horatio systems but see that unknown/unidentified system way over there? I can navigate through Horatio's influence to it. All this time Horatio is navigating to my systems inside my influence on fully establish colonies.

Edit:

Perhaps "buggy" isn't the right word for it. weird, hinky, inconsistent... I've been flying all around Horatio's zone of influence unmasking all those unknown and never once becoming trapped.
