UI scaling concern

So I wound up buying this in spite of my uncertainty about the combat. I agree with all of the compliments on the stability and polish. It's very impressive for a game so far away from release.

I do have one issue that may not be so easy to patch, however. The UI is indeed impressive but it doesn't seem to fully scale for higher resolution displays. For example:

This shot was taken at 1280x800

This is the same screen at 2560x1600

And now at 2560x1600

You'll notice that some UI features stay the same relative size regardless of resolution but a lot of the detail text appears MUCH smaller at higher resolutions which makes it harder to read. Most bigger games these days feature a UI that scales to account for resolution changes (see WoW and Diablo 3 for example) and I was hopeful that this game would do the same.

Is there any hope of seeing the UI updated to allow for scaling?

You know what I didn't find any problem with the UI scale, I play in a big monitor(42' TV really) with a large resolution(1920x1080); UI text reads perfectly fine. It has a whole minimalistic approach I just love. Nevertheless I can see how a scalable UI might be just better for a lot of different system configurations.

Yeah, but that's only 1080p on a much larger screen than I'm using. If I set my screen to match your resolution, I can read everything pretty easily but then I'm dealing with a non-native resolution and all of the usual blurring that entails.

When I set the game to my native resolution of 2560x1600, everything is razor-sharp but I find that I have to sit uncomfortably close to make out the smallest text. There's also the way some menus wind up looking sparse with all that negative space (see my second two screenshots for a good example).

What size monitor are you using that resolution on? Wow u have to scale the ui yourself. I don't remember if you could even change it with the vanilla ui. Diablo 3 isn't out yet so I don't know how that's a comparison lol. I have never seen a game that automatically increases the ui size when u increase the resolution.

Usually the lower the resolution the larger the ui. And vice versa. I do understand your pain cause even 1080 makes stuff to small to read sometimes.

My question is, is 1080 that bad? I mean I use a 24 incher at 1080 and its about perfect.

Just because a screen can go to that high of resolution does not mean its going to be optimal.

I mean 1080 is still the highest hd resolution still right? Anything smaller than a 30 inch screen I can see it being to high of a resolution

It's a 30 inch screen. The native resolution is 2560x1600. Set it to anything less and the video card attempts to scale the image to fill the screen resulting in a blurry picture. It's not a good option.

Lots of games scale the UI to account for higher resolutions: All of Valve's games since Half-Life 2, WoW (the in-game options even allow you to change the scaling percentage), The Witcher 2, Rayman Origins, Clash of Heroes, Legend of Grimrock, Minecraft, etc.

I was talking about the Diablo 3 beta, by the way.

Sorry if i am asking a silly question here but i am new and trying to get involved I have yet to play the alpha.

is there no Manual Scaling in the options? All strategy games should have IMO.

But i can defiantly that there is a issue there. People love to run there games at max resolution at all times so this could be a reasonable issue.

The options menu is very limited at this point. There are only a few presets for graphics and nothing for the UI.

Yup, we need ui scaling to make the game fun on HD (1080p+) screens. In Sins:Rebellion i have to maually delete font files (in game files) to be able to read without squinting. So yeah, ui options should be a big part of modern day game design.

Playing in 1600x900 and even for me the UI elements seemed a bit small.

Is there any chance of a dev comment? I'd appreciate anything, even "NOPE, SO STOP ASKING"!

Even if a complete UI scaling upgrade is off the table, a larger font option would be nice!

It's on our wish list, but we don't know for now if we will be able to do it.

I'd buy a second copy just for improved UI scaling! If this turns out to be as timeless as Master of Orion, it would be nice to futureproof it.

Thanks for the response.

A scalable UI would be nice but what I would really like is to be able to Mod the UI.

If anybody (Devs, Users or Dreamers!) has any ideas or knowledge that would make this do-able then let me know!
