Toggle on/off whether there can be multiple factions of the same race in a game

I just do not like playing games where I have randomized all my opposing factions and I end up playing against two factions of Cravers, or three factions of Sophons, etc. To me it is more fun if all of the factions in my various play sessions are different. Oh yeah, the developers should also add a toggle that determines whether or not an AI opponent can appear as the same faction the player is using.

Got to second this, it is so annoying to have three , or worse four of them. Had three Cravers in an 8 player game... needless to say they didn't pose a threat because they kept trying to eat each other

Well...The point of random is to get random opponents, like you said, for a random game. It's only fitting (and fun, in my opinion) to get crazy groups like that.

If you really want individual, different faction, it takes all of maybe...ten seconds to set all the factions to what you want.

I agree with Final. If you don't want multiples, set the races yourself and switch around the colors each game.

I should have explained myself more clearly. The two of you are right, I could manually pick each of the factions I am going play against, but half the fun I get out of a game like Endless Space comes from not knowing who my opponents are going be. If I manually pick the opposing factions like the two of you suggested, then that game would not be as fun for me compared to one where all of my opponents are random. I am the kind of gamer that NEVER likes to manually pick my opponents, even if I am given that option on the game I am playing.

Just play eight player games so you always have one of everyone.

Do you even read?

In eight player games I have never had one of each race unless I force it. In fact, I have had more games with three identical races than I can count. I do not mind doubling up on a race appearing, but the game should block three and four copies of the same.

Hmm...I know the idea has been suggested before, but I don't think any devs have commented on it yet.

All I can say until then is, if you want some help with it now, check in with the modding forums and ask if anyone might know some way to tweak settings to prevent multiple randoms. This complaint has come up a few times before, so I imagine someone has at least fiddled around with the modding tools to see what they could do with it.

Other than that...Invent a story for it? If you have three Hissho, for example, make the scenario that before you arrived on the scene the Hissho had been a dominant force in the galaxy. They grew so large that disapproval stuff happened, they splintered into a three-way civil war that ended up blasting them all back to square one, and now they're racing to get back what they had lost. It's not the prettiest or best adivce, I know, but it might make having multiple randoms a bit more tolerable.

Hmmmmm, I suppose I could use a mod for the time being. You have my thanks FinalStrigon, for reminding me that I do have another potential way to solve this issue.

I totaly agree with Cesquis on this subject! To me it seems like this is a bug that has to be fixed by the developers at Amplitude Studios...the hole point of chosing random opponents is not to know who you're up against and it is only annoying when you realise that there are mutiples of the same race. If you like to have multiples it should only be done by actively choosing this in the opponents list, perhaps setting the other ones to random. I have not experienced this in any other similar game so I truly hope that someone in Amplitude Studios adress this issue...bug or not, I don't like it and I don't think that this was the way the developers intended it to be?

I also have to agree with the op. No idea why some people defend the current situation as this is definitively a bug! This happens in no other game that I have ever seen, it doesn't make any logical sense and it's completely annoying! In my last game I was playing against 5 random AIs and I was quite astonished the turn I found out that 3 of them were Sophons. Eventually, after wiping out the other 2 players, I found myself in an alliance with the green sophons fighting against the evil red sophons and blue sophons!! I mean, WTF?? If the Devs have never commented on that situation then they are probably not aware of it!

Me too!

In my last game, I played the Amoeba and my next neighbours were - the Amoeba... I'd definitely like an option to prevent such things from happening.

That issue has been repeatedly reported as a bug in the tech forum but davea believes that most people like it that way (?) and thus refuses to put on the bug-list. So this is officially considered to be a "missing feature" rather than a flaw, which means a poll is needed if we think that has to be changed.
