I would love these features.

To make it less spammy, make a it tool-tip above the 'Next Turn' button when you hover it.

"You have X idle Systems."

"You have X idle Fleets."

"No research is being done."

It could open the Ships, Systems Overview or Research screens depending on which you click.

If it's a fleet it would be best to cycle to a fleet, focus the camera and selected it while keeping the 'next idle fleet' cycle button on the screen all the time so you can give orders and then go to the next fleet quickly.

So where is the poll for this? smiley: biggrin

Game should definitely auto-cycle between fleets without orders!

+1 to thread, and especially +1 to this.

This is a definite must add feature. It does happen where a system finishes it queue and goes empty and you get no notification, or even turn one if you forget to set your initial build for a system. We definetly need a no production in system notification that , just like the research alert, prevents the turn from advancing one time and drop the notification into the qlert queue.

Ships should have a "sentry" status in their command bar and again just like the research alert if you have ships with movement points remaining that are not on sentry the turn should not advance on first end turn click and a notification should drop into the queue.

There should also be keybinds for cycling through fleets

-2 keys - forward backward for all fleets regardless of status

-2 keys - forward backward for all non sentried with movement points left

This thread is the origin of discussions about browsing idle systems/fleets/research and/or getting notified of them.

Feel free to post here about this topic here and inform yourself about the variations the threads listed above have already discussed, but don't open new suggestion threads for anything alike. smiley: wink

This would have two positive effects in that it would stop people accidentally moving on a turn when going through the notifications from the previous turn (I've done this once or twice!), and secondly it would stop me wasting resources should I overlook something that's passed me by in the notifications.

Yes please! More notifications it can be tough to remember everything going on and never a good thing if you miss a turn of system production

These notifications would be really useful. Of course, there has to be a wait command for fleets or something similar, but as your empire grows, it's easy to overlook something like that.

Ships can idle if your building a large fleet, planet and system production can be idle if you lack the resources to build more improvements. any sort of active notification for these things would be spammy and will get annoying fast. However since there is never a reason why you wouldn't want to be researching the 'next big thing', a notification when you end your turn without something being researched would be a good idea. "Your Scientists are bored, and need something to do."

There might be a place for graphical representation of an idle fleet/system/planet/pet hamster however...

I hate it when i have idle pet hamsters....

"Fleet idle" would require some sort of "stay still" fleet command. Maybe it would be easier to have fleet arrival notification instead?

It is a good idea.

At an early stage, one cannot waste a game turn with no research going on.

To me, the "no research" notification should pop up after each game turn.

It should propose a quick access option from the in-game interface to switch OFF that notification until I want it back ON (also from the in-game interface). i.e. right-click to disable permanently.

... a "notification droid" could be added to the technology tree =)

These sort of reminders need to be minimal, but I agree that they are vital. A notification for each idle fleet would be overkill, but a simple 3 notifications for idle research, production, and units that just cycles through would perhaps be enough.

One of the biggest problems I have always found with Space games is that the background is Space, and that is hard to see things on. It's so empty and clustered. The land tiles in Civilization are a good counter example of this. Bright colors, plain, and easy to read off of. It could be argued that a Space background is needed, so if the devs want to take that route I'd say at least make the fonts bigger, and maybe a color other than white.

Can we get a button on the UI that lights up if you have a fleet, research, or system construction idle? And if we clicked it, it could take us to the idler in question? Seems like a simple way to remind players to keep productive.

Maybe let fleets be set into "guard mode" so they aren't considered idle if you just have them set to protect a system.

I definitely concur that it would be useful to see, at a glance, what's idling. For example, if I've got systems just idling, I'd like to know, same if I've forgotten to set research.

This is the best version of this suggestion to date. As long as it is something that can be disabled.

I suggest to make some kind of action required from every planet, fleet and on the tech tree, even if it is some kind of pass action, unless you've set the fleet in "guard" mode or the tech tree in "divert efforts into production" or something like that.

Usually you get the bubble reminders about planet building and research on the right side above the end turn button. They tell you what was built/researched, and what is next. if nothing is next then when you click the bubble reminder it will show the queue as empty.

I see no reason for an "idle research reminder" because you can always see it at the top toolbar. But my contruction queue is sometimes idle even I take care to fill up the queue. Ok, its possible to check it by the empire or fleet overview. But all things considered I support this suggestion, too.

I support this suggestion.

Edit: to add further to this discussion, maybe the "guard mode" that the OP suggested could be coupled with someone elses suggestion of being able to "blockade" space lanes/strings so that enemies cant get past, or need some form of stealth technology to safely pass blockades.

You could merge these ideas by having idle fleets being set to actively blockade space lanes/strings/wormholes in order to better control your territory
