Endless Planet

Can't think of anything in particular, but it would be nice to see some racial bonuses given for sowers and pilgrims. Speaking of which is anything going to happen for them when we hire our special hero...i know my pilgrims will be geeking out a bit.

I made another topic about this, with a new type of anomaly that i know everyone would like. Something happened though and it was never posted.

But I'll try to re create it.....

So in our solar system Jupiter and Saturn are massive. 2 of the moons orbiting Jupiter, Io and Europa, have elliptical orbits. This elliptical orbits generate a lot of heat inside the planet, warming them up, even though they are so far away from the sun.

So here are my 2 "new" types of anomaly suggestions, for only the moons of gas giants.

1. Anomaly - Elliptical Orbit

- The long elliptical orbit generates friction within the moon. Depending on the planet type, different bonus's can be achieved.

a. Ice Water - The ice below the surface of the icy moon has slowly melted over millions of years. +2 to food, +1 to science.

b. Rocky - The moon is laced with volcanoes, somewhat balancing out living conditions. +2 to industry, +1 to science

c. Ancient - There is an ancient space port on this planet filled with sensors and other scientific equipment. +3 to science, +1 to dust

2. Anomaly - Methane Lakes

- Below the thick orange cloud of gas that covers the moon, is a system of lakes filled with methane and ethane.

+3 to industry per guy

These are real moons within our solar system. I could really see these anomalies within this game.

Veers, your last idea is trippy.

That got my thinkin.

Wouldn't it be cool if there were planets in ES that were not normal orbiting planets, but infact more like trans-Neptunian objects ?

So it would take another turn to colonize it since it is in a kind of hard to reach area is the solar system.

Quote from Wikipedia - Trans-Neptunian object.

A trans-Neptunian object (TNO; also written transneptunian object) is any object in the Solar System that orbits the Sun at a greater average distance (semi-major axis) than Neptune.

I think he means planets which need more industry power (resp. more turns) to be colonized cuz they are harder to reach from the inner star system.

Actually a nice idea but in my eyes it wouldn't make much sense in a setting where your ships are able to FTL travel.

Edith says:

I made a slightly different suggestion with star system anomalies which is worth a look, I think and which I want to note here:

Cold Core – The core of this planet is cold and inert therefore the planet is without an effective magneto or ionosphere to deflect the star’s deadly radiation but it makes deepcore mining less hazardous.

Dipolar Plasmasphere – The plasmasphere that envelopes this planet is extensive and dense, hoovering up and trapping inordinate amounts of solar radiation which protects life on the surface from harmful particles but presents orbital technology with significant challenges to overcome.

Crustal Displacement – The crust of this planet sits on top of a highly fluid and dynamic mantle which results in severe earthquakes on a frequent basis, particularly when in a system which has a Gas Giant. Dense Dark Matter Halo (on any planet type)

This planet drifts through a zone of dense dark matter. Experiments to detect rare interactions between baryonic and dark matter are especially fruitful, here.

In ancient times a neutron star was eaten by a black hole and this planet was in the line of fire. No life survived the intense gamma radiation burst that sterilized everything.

Great ideas guys...

I made a post about unique planet types for each race here... perhaps they should be anomalies instead?

Or even better... what about anomalies that you add to a planet? Each race could have their own version... not that you would be able to add ANY anomaly, but surely if an entire planet can be terraformed, some of the anomalies could be fabricated?

Wow, such great ideas! They would trouly bring more variety to the game, and even though not everything is visualized, it's just so interesting to read about it. lol Like reading a scientific publicashion - but UNDERSTANDABLE!!!

Or a real good hard-sci-fi book. smiley: biggrin

Perhaps some anomalies give the same bonuses/mali as other anomalies but who cares? I would love to have more of those!

How's about the DEV-TEAM? You like these ideas guys? Are you going to take some of them into account? smiley: money

Off-Kilter Axis

The axis of this planet cannot stay in a fixed angle, poles shifting to the equator zone and vise-versa in a matter of years. Either needing to rapidly adapt to survive these extremes in a couple of generations or surviving both in their lifetime makes living extremely difficult to both flora and fauna. As well as it increases environmental stress to buildings. Scientists are massively intrigued as to how life can cope with such drastic changes in the biosphere in an impossibly short time.

Cannot happen on a planet w/ moon (Since moons stabilize a planets' axis in real life)

Needs adaptive colonies

When fixed: Negatives removed, no change to the science bonus.

[EDIT] I'd also want to see the removal of 'impossible' anomalies like: Poor soil on gas giant, Acid rain on barren etc...

Live planet:

The planet itself is alive, an extremely slow and vast life form that composes the entire globe. Though it seems impossible to communicate with, it appears to provide some sort of boon to the colonists, boosting the crop's growth rate and pushing metal veins closer to the surface. However, it seems this immense organism feeds off dust. With a large scientific investment, it might be able to communicate with this strangely benevolent being.

Parasite nest:

This planet writhes with parasitic lifeforms, and sadly the colonist are no exceptions when it comes to finding a host. The parasites take over the host's body, and usually turn on to their former comrades in order to infect them. This form of parasite however, has shaken scientist's beliefs on the evolution of such organisms. They might even be edible.

Living Cities:

This planet was clearly under control of the Endless as there are vast, still standing, citys that are scattered around the planet. Unfortunately, the cities are "alive" with defense drones that attack anything coming within the cities borders with a seamingly never ending supply. While the cities are magnificent in scale and beauty, they are built around all the hot spots of resources on the planet. Until there is a way to shut down the drones or turn them under our control, colonies will suffer a lack of resources and space.

Fixed with Soil Revivification:

Thanks to a science team that lost their lives to solve the "Living Cities" issue, the vast doors to the many metropolises have given us access to their vast buildings that can house a larger population than what was previously percieved, as well as the vast resources that they were built upon. As another bonus, the drones are now under our control and will contribute to planet defense.

Diamond Crust (Barren or Lava only)

The Planet has an hard layer of diamond about 10 - 50 kilometer undearneath the earth, produced by an extreme gravity and extreme temperatures. That makes it very valuable, but almost impossible to change.

Also, a new tech that allows you to re-roll for your anomalies ONCE in a star system would be a nice addition if not an expensive one. You could get great positive anomalies, the debatable ones, or you could more screwed over more than you were to begin with.

I was thinking it might be fun to add more things to moons, instead of just barren or a temple. Maybe having signs of life, tech, or something unique about them instead of just the monotony of the current two choices.
