[Suggestion] Keep track of victory progress

After ten hours of playing, the game suddenly ended in economic victory for some AI.

There was no race taking place. There was no competition presented to the player. There was only the game being cut short, the rug ripped out from under me. This is not a good experience, and in my opinion it should be altered.

I'm feeling kind of hostile about it, because I was really enjoying that game. I was in the middle of several plans, my empire was blossoming. Then it was just shut off.

Suggestion:

Make any and all races readily apparent to the player. Show how they are doing, how far along the race is to completion, who is winning. The pressure of such a race should be felt consciously by the player. They need to know that the heat is on, and in a game like this, exactly by how much.

Again, sorry for the hostile tone, but I was having a good time until it was taken from me.

I agree and I think the economic victory could be set up better.

At the very least there should be a warning when someone gets close to a victory condition, as some are not too obvious.

Hmm... Meditate on this I will

You can still salvage the game, if you've got a savegame at least one turn before the economic victory happened.

http://forums.amplitude-studios.com/showthread.php?740-Workarounds-to-Known-Issues&p=18379&viewfull=1#post18379 describes a workaround, just ignore the turn 0. The rest still applies.

Don't feel too bad about it. If you mouse over Empire / Science / Military, you can see how advanced, in terms of % each race is. There seems to be a bug regarding economic victory in that... in my game, the AI had 100% economic victory but the win condition was only triggered 30 turns later, when I triggered a science victory, at which point I auto-lost. The game said something like, the AI acquired 300,000 dust, which lead to an economic victory.

This game is in an Alpha build, so getting things like this mentioned is key. Consider your sudden loss a learning experience for all of us that we can prevent in future builds.

Maybe instead of a warning the Economy win thresh hold is about to be surpassed, how about having to run intelligence missions to get that information.

Matter of fast, this is why the CIA hires economist to analyse foreign countries economies to see what kind of war effort they can support, and if their public statements about their budgets are hiding anything.

I think there could be two solutions: 1. Before you even start a new game you should be able to enable and disable the difforent victory conditions, for instance you could make it so the only way to win is through conquest or economy and conquest. 2. Give the player the option to continue playing after a victory condition is met and you would be able to keep playing until another victory condition is met and so on.

The dialog box and menu choices for this are in the game now, but they don't happen to work.

This is a very commonly requested option. Please see the suggestion thread in my sig.

Same happened to me yesterday, I had just been finishing extermination of another race that I had big war against, and I still had 2 other bigger empires to deal with somewhere farther, but then the game just cut me off just when I was almost done with my first enemy.

I think this is bug, because I clearly remember that when I started that game, I specifically turned off every single victory condition except supremecy, which at least at other 4x games I´ve played means conquering other races.

if not, then description on victory conditions when you start new game is a must.

Seems like the devs heard you and are considering it:

It is indeed a bug, that the settings in the victory conditions menu have no effect, so far.

Thank you very much, I did this and now I'm back in the game!

Also, something odd happened while I was making this correction. I first tried it on an old save that had the permanent standby bug, where you kill an empire and then the game locks up. But now the game no longer thinks that empire is dead (even though they don't have any planets) and so I could hit the turn advance button.

Can we have the option to not have the game finish at all? I don't feel that's necessary, the galaxy is big enough to take a solid amount of time to conquer / make peace with...
