How customizeable are ships and how big can they get?

We already know that you can customize your ships, but how much?

Also, how big can the ships be? Do you pick from a selection of different hull types? And if so then how large is the biggest hull?

I suspect that you will probably be able to pick between the typical cruiser/frigate/capital ship hull types but I was wondering if you could go beyond that and construct like a really really big ship. Like some kind of a super capital ship or something!

Anyone?

The largest ship available can be assembled with the Large hull, which is 1000 meters long; you can check these screenshots for reference.

Thanks to them I think there are 4 hull types: Tiny, Small, Normal and Large. With at least 6 different ship classes, which I believe them to be: Scout, Frigate, Destroyer, Cruiser, Battleship and Colony. From what little we know so far, I think you are out of luck on that SSD you want. If it's a feature that you consider essential, you should check out Star Ruler; there are no size limits on hulls there. To be clear I don't particularly like that game, I like it better than SOASE for example; but not by much. Nevertheless, since it's totally indie(like garage indie); I bought it anyways.

Ah! Ok.

A 1000 meter long ship is still very big though, even if it may not be super huge. Plus one can always hope that such a huge ship type will be added later either before the game is finished, with an expansion, or with a mod (the last one is not impossible at all if this game gets lots of mods).

As for Star Ruler, yea I did not really like that game. I think it had a lot of great ideas (like being able to build without size limits) but what killed that game for me was the dumb and confusing way the economy worked. I was never really sure how many resources I actually owned or which of them I could use. It was a bloody micromanagement nightmare.
