I tried to find it in the universe thread but only got confused.

I know about the United Empire and the Honuri/Hondori/whatever but what about the other ones?

Can someone give me a list of all of the factions, what they are called and what their backstory is so that I finally know?

3 playable factions out of 8 have been announced so far: United Empire, Cravers, Horatio. The Endless who you might have read about in the lore are a presumably long-extinct and highly advanced race. The Harmony are crystalline creatures who will be present in the game but will not be playable. In addition there will be pirates.

yeah the summer is June, July and August. With a projected summer release that means we have 4 months max till release if the game indeed gets released during the summer

5 unknown races remain. So 2 races per month sounds great don't you think

I hope the others are as creative as the Horatio.I am bored with the generic machine,bug races you get in most other 4X sci fi games with little developed lore about them.SOTS and Emperor of the fading suns withstanding.
