Fuel and Ship Range

Will ships be limited how how far they can travel, and what factors will determine how far they can go?



Will fuel be a factor in range? You have 300 units of fuel, and each 100 units will allow to travel to another star system using string induction. You have 300 units of fuel which will allow to travel so far using the warp drive.



Or perhaps something a little more simple like "you may only travel out this far from a friendly colony."



Or perhaps some other method of limiting range.





....Or will ship travel range be a factor at all? smiley: confused

It shows in some of the pics that there are lines connecting stars, so the game's transport system will probably be like Sins of A Solar Empire's phase lanes, or node points in Sword of The Stars if you play as humans. I also heard that there will be also a tech that lets you travel between any two given points, not requiring a connection

I think the maximum distance that you can travel away from your territory might be limited by communication range, which will expand as your territory grows and you research comm technologies.

I hope that you can design an exploration type vessel with the scope to explore far outwith your territory. Perhaps single use robotic probes sent one way to map out/ survey a system? I'd also like to send spy probes deep into enemy territory smiley: smile

It would certainly give me strategic importance to deep space stations/ star bases if they are implimented in the future. A single communication structure could become the focus for an entire campaign. It's a similar concept to the construciton of outposts in Master of Orion although I feel this could be expanded to deep space structures 'off the beaten path' so to speak.



If one of these structures was destroyed it could wreak havoc on a currently deployed fleet although I'm not keen on the idea of spamming stations all over the map like in Galciv. I hated having to send the constructor ships to upgrade those stations. that was the weakest aspect of the game to me.
